Dear Seniors
I strongly recommend a 2 day weekend off (Sat & Sun), however the org I work with is a business consulting firm and works 9:30 to 6:30 and 6 days a week. We have a lot of attrition due to the simple fact of no work life balance. Lot of employees look stressed and fizzled out. The organisation has been working this way since inception. Seniors can you please help me how can subtly yet effectively put this across to the management and bring about this change in our org, I am sure this will definitely benefit the org in many ways.

Dear Shilpa,
We have implemented alternative Saturday Off policy and increase daily working time to compensate to that off Saturday. From my personal experience i would say this is very good policy, we have reduce our employee leave ratio, stress level and also increase employee satisfaction after this. You can tell to management and go for it.

Dear Sir,
Instead of 2 days holidays continuously (SAT & SUN), I suggest in the interest Stress and Strain relief, it would be better to have two holidays on (THU & SUN).

Dear Shilpa,
I understand your concern. We should work smart and not just hard.
However, we need to understand the hard facts of your company culture also. You have said that "We have a lot of attrition due to the simple fact of no work life balance. Lot of employees look stressed and fizzled out."
What is the evidence for this conclusion? Have you done analysis of the exit interviews? How many per cent employees told that they were leaving the company because of the improper work-life balance?
Whether to go for five day week or six day week is age-old controversy. Finally it reflects through process of your MD. Mere you asking opinions of seniors in forums like these will not help.
Ok...

@Kinjal, Thanks but what if we are already working 9 hrs day, can we increase that it should be really difficult as it is already 9:30-6:30
@D. Gurmurthy, Thanks for your response, however having thu and sun off would defeat the purpose as employees may want to go out on weekend outings etc....
@Dinesh Divekar, Thanks for your response, yes i did an informal survey, which is very suggestive of the kind of dissatisfaction there is among employees because of this. infact several candidates refuse to join because of 6 days working....we are in business advisory and many of our clients are also international, sometimes even they jeer when they hear about indian employees state....

Shilpa,
you can give 2nd and 4th Saturday's as weekly offs. an weekly off in the middle of the week disturbs the work continuity.
anyways, find out the reason for this stress ur people are facing. just by giving a saturday off might possibly reduce or be of some help. but is not the solution to ur concern.
conduct activities at work. make the work interesting.

In addition to the useful input by Dinesh, you can also conduct employee satisfaction survey to confirm the \"no worklife balance\" issue.
Also, if your company is a customer-centric, the decision to work or not to work on weekends is directly
link to the readiness to service your clients even on weekends.
So, do your analysis first before pushing for a change.

Dear Shilpa,
Good Morning!
In today's scinerio this is not possible. Even in Indian Subcontinent where Economy is in strict struggle condition. We can't two day work off on sake of work life balance.
Please re-think on your argument.

Hi Shilpa,
Firstly, you have to understand the values of your organization. Does your management believe on the value of Human Resource? If yes, do you have the strategies in place?
Secondly, do you have a route -cause analysis of attrition, sometimes, the issue is different and the interpretation is different. How many employees left and joined the company where there is 5 days week? Does it really improve their work-life balance? And if yes, at the cost of business? Every organization has its own objectives to run the business. I have the examples where employees left the organization which has 5 days and joined the company which has 6 days week. The reason can be anything.
In informal feedback, existing employees may say that they are stressed out and in any organization this is an issue. But why not work out for better time management and in a smart way?
Please find enclosed the good article on Time Management which elaborates these issues. The crust is all the work life balance issues are with poor time management.

Hi,
Work life balance, managing time and employees under stress are the issues prevailing in todays industry. All employees need to be comfortable with their work - a basic desire of each one.Work distribution, teambuilding and work sharing benifits a lot and companioinship enables the team memeber to be free for their personal comitments, after all every one is earning for the betterment of life.Apart from this, get togethers and picnics etc with famlies and friends among employees relieves them from stresses. We ensure that our employees are entertained and allowed freedom to participate in welfare ventures organised by our company.
Worksharing and team participation also requires employees to get them multiskilled so that organisation's work is never hampered.I know this will take time but emplyee welfare doen't mean extra holodays or manuplation of working hours. It is something that an organisations provide as added benifit for retaining their emplyees that to ever smiling faces while on work.
My Advice is - Pls be with your employees spend quality time in understanding their perspectives.
Thanks,
