Hi Zipho.
Unlike the past, where Human Resource professionals were passive and simply following the orders of other managers, the H R Managers of today are more dynamic.
As you righlty said HRD has to grow a lot in this techno era. Today inorder to understand the training requirement you should no longer depend on line managers etc. The H R Manager should himself know the requirement and design the training programme.
The future of a H R D professional is to an extend unpredictable , but it is for sure that HRD is on a growth track.
Pro-activeness is the word which would drive the HRD Professionals in the future.
All the best for your studies.

I agree the future (and current reality) is that you must be seen as a partner to your business Leaders. You must sit at the exec / leadership table as an equal and be involved in driving the business Strategic direction.
Its not enough to be a passive supplier of learning & development. Organisations now require the Learning function to be proactive and develop new interventions which will contribute to the commercial agenda.

Hi!
HR developers roles in the future is most important in the new economy, wiining will spring from organisationsl capabilities such as speed, responsiveness, agility, learning capacity, employee competence and last but not the least knowledge management.
companies today face five critical business challenges viz., Globalization, profitability through growth, technology, intellectual capital and Change.
collectively, these challenges require organisations to build new capabilities. who is currently responsible for those capabilities?? That vaccume is HR's opportunity to play a leadership role in enabling organisations to meet the above mentioned competetive challenges.
new role of HR dddevelopers in future is :
1. becoming a partner in strategy execution
2. becoming an administrative expert
3. becoming an employee champion
4. becoming a change agent.
this fourth role is the most imp. one in future as the HR Dev. has, the the job of building the organisation's capacity to embrace and capitalize on CHANGE. As change agent, HR Developers do not themselves execute change but they would make sure that it is carried out.
hope this will helpful to some extent.
will add more later.....
with best regards
