Dear Pmon,

Seems like you have joined a Manpower consultancy(Correct me if I am wrong). If that is the case then what you are doing right now is a Business Development job. In a lot of consultancies this model works where the the person has to get the Client by doing BD & once the position starts coming then start working on the positions & try to close them. At the same time you also have a lot of consultancies where Business Development people are different from Recruiting people & both the teams work individually.(This one looks your case)

I am not sure what is the job role that has been explained to you before you were hired. So won't be able to suggest you anything. But for your second question

"NO" this job what you are doing will not help you in your career in HR & I agree that in a time like this HR jobs are not too much in the market. So you can do 2 things:-

a) Keep doing this job & parallely keep looking for a HR job in a "COMPANY".

b) Ask your current Company to transfer you in a recruiting job & if they dont agree quit this consultancy & try to get into another consultancy where you can get a recruiting role because that will be better off then a Business Development role.(& I know consultancies are still hiring people)

Good that you have a job in hand. Market is improving and u r continuing the search for a HR profile. I can not comment on role and learning untill I know profile or ur organization.

As Prashant rightly said its a marketing & sales profile.

Meanwhile keep learning what ever u r doing, try to understand the HR aspects in ur current job like learn to build interpersonal relationship/understanding, understand business and how HR can be helpful, where marketing n HR has interface...believe me this will give u more depth understanding... Also, hwatever u r doing keep proving also to the management so that even if u do not get other job, though u will, they cam listen u and probably can shift u in core HR.... if u r good performer u can ask the shift...but its not that easy also...

If u will work for very long time in this role without HR related understanding it will affect HR aspect.. also check how much u like this job.

Instead of worrying I suggest u develop ur understanding and keep searching the job. There is fixed solution to this from my point of u...

Also whichever HR job u get take it...

Hi Pmon,Regret I have joined in this thread of discussions rather late. Agree with the comments of Prashant and Rahul …am a fresher in MBA (HR) and have recently joined an HR company. I m not into recruitment but my work profile is that i hav to visit clients/companies and give presentations of our (HR firm) organisation' s profile, so that dey tie up wid us.So m not sure -is this profile is going to help my career in HR?This is more in line with Business Development and coming to your point whether this would help you in your career in HR-Considering the current scenario – am of the opinion this would definetly help your career in many ways and two things comes into my mind viz ;- improve your presentation skills which is very essential skill set for HR ; for you may someday think of training as a career. Additionally this would help you to develop contacts in the industry and use it for effective networking. Remember tomorrow’s best jobs would come from networking rather than job sites or recruitment consultants.Regards,Rajat Joshi

Hi Pmon,
Same profile? Not at the moment but yes in my initial phase of career.
As i mentioned earlier that it would help you to brush up your presentation skills and client building skills and morever it would give you the confidence when you appear for the interviews at later stage.
Use this experience to your advantage by way of understanding the market and yourself as how you are adding the value to the organization.
Once self analysis is done frankly it would lead you to the route wherein success awaits you !
Best wishes,
Rajat
