Hi,
Can someone guide me the prerequisite for being a HR professional.
We have Engineers, Doctors, Science Graduates, Pharmacy persons all aspiring to get into HR,, If they can get into HR, does it mean that anyone can get into HR without a proper qualification or just by reading some books can anyone become a HR professional
But from corporate point of view, if you see,
there is a question which corporations ask candidates,
u did your engineering, medical, science and then u want to come into HR, why ,, ???
were u too immature to decide what u want to do in life, or you didnt have a proper plan of your life, or you could not get jobs in ur field so came to HR or want to come to HR. . or you think anyone can get into HR...
Can someone please clarify my above point ..
Except some 2-3 MNC companies, other companies take any qualification persons, engineers, science , pharmacy, legal grads as HR execs ,,,
Only certain MNC follow the principle of a pure HR oriented educational qualification for HR,, i.e a graduation + a full time MBA in HR
So does the graduation matters or not, i mean does
BCOM+MBAHR = BSC+MBAHR = BBA+MBAHR = BCA+MBAHR
and one question people who do MBA in OPERATIONS , HR etc after their technical degree, (For Eg. IIT + IIM , then after MBA whats their work profile like, its technical or administrative / managerial ,,or both, if both then to what extent tis technical + managerial ,,

Dear Friend,
u have a raised a very good point.even i have this doubt first but now.
a perfect HR is a person who can handle any type of situation no matter of studies.
Now a days v r coming across this MBA,Engineering, etc etc in initial stages when they thought of HR Department there is only one person who has done his degree(any) base on his experience and the way he handle all the people in this organization is kept as HR.
Even now v r going for HR with engineering or medical or other education qualification because v want candidates with multi talented.an person with BA or B Com or BSE might not understand the technical terms thats the reason most of the MNC r going for BE,Btech and other technical education people.
Hr is a psychology base subject.the ultimate aim of us is managing different people.respecting their cultures and motivating them to get 100%effort from them
i hope u got my poting.
Thanks for ur valuable time.
Pardon me if i am wrong at any point.I request you to suggest me if any.

Hi,
I am a new member of Citehr from Dubai. When I saw nobody reply you then I start to write for you.....!
When we going to hire an Construction Engineer, we find a BSc in Civil Engineer+Exp.
When we hire an accountant we prefer a B.com or M.com or CA degree holder + experience.
So, according to me HR Professional should be MBA-HR + experience

Dear Manish,
I can not fully agree with you. If you say so, it would probably be impossible to switch industries for HR professionals as technical knowledge may differ from industy to industry. HR is quite different subject. You cannot compare it with other, since it is dealing with human beings.
Here the problem rests only with recruitment, which is one of the functions in HR. In major organisations there will be a recruitment team. Usually they are very much updated with the recent trends in technologies, domanis and other aspects of industry practises. Every time during recruitments, first round will be performed by technical departments and if needed, second round as well. Then followed by HR round, which ultimately decides the merit of the candidate to be employed.
Why MNCs are seeking Highly educated HR professionals, is the present scenario demands more from every person and HR is of no exception. They need to have high leadership capabilities to deal with different cultures, departments and locations across the globe to achieve the goals of the organisation.
In india, it is not statutory to employ a professionaly qualified HR person in an organisation, like a finance professional whose qualifications are decided by law. As the head count increases, it happens. So nobody is bothered about qualifications of an HR person.
Though HR qualifications can help a person master very well in HR, I have seen many managers performing exceptionaly good without pure HR Degrees. In my opinion, obviously HR qualifications are very much important and at the same time, one need to develop man managemet skills in addtion to his qualifications to become a highly successful HR professional.

Hi Binu
I agree with you.
What I have observed in today's scenario organisation is looking for "Skills" not the degree subjects.
I have a very good command on HR-Training but I dont have a degree.
I think its all about "Skills"
Thanks

then i suppose HR is more of a skill based, rather than knowledge based.
As far as technical recruitments are concerned, HR is not supposed to ask technical questions to candidates as there is a seperate technical team for that, ie. dept head etc. The candidate is more intelligent than HR in technical terms.
Still how come the HR has right in final decision making since it itself cannot ascertain the knowledge of the candidate, many times it happens that dept head selectes the candidate and hr rejects him, and in it sometimes fights occur betn dept head and HR wherein HR is accused of rejecting without cause, as dept head is satisfied with technical competence and our HR is satisfied with loyalty.

Would this thread discourage the students doing MBA when they know that in India, there is no respect for their degree only skills are required.
:( :( :( :( :( :( :(
No knowledge is required.
Because an MBA is not recoganised as a Graduate with some good commn skills, and my personal experience tells that HR absolutely is like hotelling , travel wherein only skills are required.
whata u guys hav to say

hi all,
it seems we are going back to the age old argument, as to whether one should look for qualification or skill or experience.
In my career i have become somebody by virtue of the circumstances and when i get qualified for the same, i find myself doing something else.
in short, in the past 20 years, i have started doing something and then registered to check whether the theory base for what i was doing is correct!!! strange.
But, I strongly feel that there are certain fundamental personal traits, which will dictate what a person can or cannot do and the rest like experience and qualifications etc., will help sharpen the result orientedness of that trait.
i may be wrong (humility)
