Lokseva school employee asked to take three months’ unpaid leave instead of govt regulation of six
It has almost been a year that the central government has passed the amendment in the Maternity Benefit Bill making it mandatory for employers to grant a maternity leave of six months to all female employees. But the benefits of the bill, it seems, are yet to reach the beneficiaries.
This is the state of education sector where people are learned and still some establishments want to avoid following rules.

The employee needs to take up the matter in writing to Labour Commissioner and District Education officer about blatant violation of Maternity laws.
Being silent or backing down at this stage will encourage further violations of law by the school management.

Thanks for sharing the news item. Now it will be year since new act on Maternity Benefits has been passed. Nevertheless, from where employers derive strength to bypass the law? Their strength is derived from two factors. One is lack of deterrence for transgressing the law. There is no deterrence because our governments, whether union or at the states, just pass the laws without bothering to create additional mechanism for their implementation.
The second factor is timidness of the employees. They just refuse to stand for their rights. In this very forum there was a query from a person from Mumbai. Employer of his wife just refused to sanction maternity leave. She was pressurised to quit the employment so that he does not have to pay her maternity benefits. I tried my best to encourage to file complaint in the labour office. However, timid lady refused to stood up for her rights. When her husband told me this, out of sheer frustration, I ask why today's women keep their self-esteem out of their feminist movement?
Anyway, as long as women continue to get cowed down, more such news will be published. These were published earlier and will be published in future also.

Idea of putting up this post was to increase awareness.
Employers will try to cut their expenses.
Laws are meant to be bypassed as far as possible.(Totally wrong attitude)
The school in question is said to be run by a Politically involved person as per article, and may be has no fear that law will act against them properly.
Unless one is conscious of his rights and develops willingness to stand up for legal rights enforcement of laws will remain on paper.
Off course it also goes without saying emphasis on rights and duties are natural corallaries of each other.
