In the Maternity Benefit Act, there is a provision for payment of a Medical bonus of Rs. 3500/- if no prenatal and postnatal free care is provided. Please suggest whether medical consultation provided to the female employee will come under the purview of pre and postnatal care.
To have a better understanding of Section 8 of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961 kindly suggest and elaborate on what can come under the purview of pre and postnatal free care.
Thanks and regards.

Medical consultation during pregnancy is one of the prenatal cares. It should be a periodic check-up and shall include a midwife's assistance. Again, postnatal care is also required to be given both to the woman as well as the baby. If you can provide it, you need not pay a medical bonus of Rs 3500. It is a one-time payment and not a monthly payment. You can just compare the cost. Sending a team of a doctor, nurse, and midwife to the place of the employee at regular intervals and paying just Rs 3500 altogether...?
