Professor,
The global shift is toward establishing HR Standards - see the U.S. (SHRM), Canada, (Voluntary Sector) and Australia (University sector).
The design of standards is a key area of research interest.

Dear Prof.
Strategic fit of HR policies and practices is the key factor these days. HR person should think, feel and act like a strategist of the Orgn. It is also important on the part of HR to empower Line Managers with HR polices and practices. Line Mangers should be able to take all such tasks, hitherto were felt as the domain of HR, such as staff motivation, training, guidance, making staff understand the Line objectives and how they eventually lead to fulfill the grater Orgnl objectives.
Good luck for your class.

Dear Sir,
The human resource function has enriched itself over the years, by including within it a ‘development’ dimension and thus moved itself from a ‘reactive’ and ‘maintenance oriented’ function to a ‘proactive’ path breaking; ‘development oriented’ function. Today, human resource professionals talk of linkages with corporate planning, human resource development climate and budgets, development oriented appraisal systems, multiple reward mechanisms, reengineering work-cultures and ethos etc.
