Dear Aabha,
It all depends upon your circumstances. One can argue for both the options. It's difficult to negotiate for a good salary, if you are not in a job. However, it may be futile to take up a job which does not interest you. When you are not interested, the chances are that you will not work with the level of commitment required and you may not be effective and get a good reference.

what MR.Simhan said is correct. You will find it difficult to perform,if you are not interested in the job. On the otherhand, you cannot allow yourself to be jobless for a long time also. You can follow any of the following options.
1) If you get over your dislike for recruiter's job, you can take up that for now since to be occupied is better than idling way time and look for break in Generalist- profile soon.
2) If the first option is not possible, try to join a shortterm tarining course in Generalist profile and expedite your efforts to get a suitable job of your choice in the eman time so that you can tell the interviewers that you are pursuing a course in the intervening period.
