Dear friends, I am working with a software company and we are in the process of reframing our leave policy. Can you please let me know if there is something like that casual leave cannot be combined with any other kind of leave.

Dear Deepika,
There is no such provision that the Casual leaves can not be combined with Earned leaves. Once an employee is in the need of CL and has not the balance of CLs he/she can avail ELs.
There is no such uniform policy and it varies from company to company depending on the standing orders of the company.

Deepika...you need to go through the Factories Act and more importantly the logic behind different type of leaves. The purpose of casual leave is to give short (1-3 days) and immediate leave to employees. Hence, Casual leaves cannot be:
1) Carried Forward
2) Encashed
3) Added with any other type of leaves.
However, one can also take half day casual leave.
Usually companies gives 12 days of Casual Leaves (where there is no difference in casual or sick leave).
Earned Leaves or PL's have different purpose. PL's can be anything above 20 days (As per Factories Act, companies are expected to pay one day earned leave for every 20 days of work). Some companies also give 30 days PL.
Employees can accumulate their PL's. They can encash their PL's.
I hope this will help you.

Thanx Sanjeev for your valubale piece of information.I agree with your logic behind my question but there is one query as to I think that a Software Company will be covered under the Industrial Shops and Establishments act, wherein any such provision of not combining CL with any other leave is not mentioned. And one thing more that whether leave provisions in Shops and Establishments Act are a say per the act only or a must compliance.
