Welingkar Institute of Management Development and Research is a part of Shikshana Prasaraka Mandali, Pune. It is a educational institution in Maharashtra and was established in 1888 to promote and impart quality education. Today it has under it's umbrella more than forty educational institutions in India, prominent among them being Ruia College of Arts & Science, ' Podar College of Commerce and S.P.College, Pune.
Recognizing the profound need for high quality management education, the institute founded under the aegis of the University Mumbai in the year 1977. In 1984, Welingkar's introduced a two year full time programme, the Master of Management Studies(MMS) of the university of Mumbai . In 1993, a two year full time autonomous course in management studies, the Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration(PGDBA) recognized by the AICTE, Government of India was introduced. Apart from the MMS and PGDBA courses, the institute also offers a number of part-time degree and diploma courses affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
