Hi there,
We work with chemicals, reactors, centrifuges, hydrogenation plant, nitrogen plant, various stationery & mobile equipments, Dg sets etc. can some one ( please) tell me what is factories act stating on it.
For example: Should all reactors have safety relief valves ( is it mandatory?). what goes for centrifuges?
I have been surfing net for it but to no luck.
Do share your wise knowledge with us so that we too can make our factory a safe working zone.
warm regards.

Dear friend,
Your specifications ranges far and wide and is highly technical. I presume you could have some insight if you would go thro' the Factories Rule of every state, BIS standards specifications and State & Central Pollution control boards' instructions on the subject. There were such subjects discussed in these forums earlier as well and you can use "search" option to collate them. Also use the links indicated on your screen as well. You might as well share your experience with members of this forum for enriching our knowledge.

Dear Friends,
Agreed with Mr.Kumar S.In addition :
Regarding the safety provisions, Chapter IV of the Factories Act 1948 ( Sec 21 to 41) describes in detail the general safety provisions for all the Factories.
There are no specific provisions for Chemical plants............
Since in Chemical Plants we use all the vessals as described above ..............
Reactors centrifuges, hydrogenation plant: For reactors the following safety is the must :
1 Proper earthing. Connectivity of the same must be regularly checked.
2 Regular maintenance of Condensers is required to avoid vapor accumulation the area
3 Proper Flame proof site glass lights
4 Proper safety in case of Vassal entery
5 Proper insulation
6.Provision of Safety valves
7.Safety of the persons working on the same
8. Proper Exaust System
9 Proper ventilation
10 For cetrifuge process antistatic bags should be used.Scoop must be earthed. Dissipators work well.
11 In winter season, all the employees must be cautioned to wear woolan cloths.they generate static charge.
12 Mobile must not be allowed in the plants
13 Antistatic shoes should be used
14 Any other point as per the internal safety requirements
Further for hydrogenation plant there is provision to get the same inspected from the Inspector of fatories for every six months ( Kindly refer your State factories rules)
Before installing any equipmet the following procedure is addoped so that we may create and maintain the safety in the processes :
URS ( User requirements)
DQ (Design Qualification
VQ (Validation Qualification)
IQ (Installation Qualification
PQ (Performance Qualification)
In addition always have MSDS available and training for the same is required on regular basis.
