Greetings all,

I am facing health and safety issues in our factory, which are causing a lot of problems for audits. How can I train workers for health and safety issues? This is the first time I am going to conduct this type of training. I want to know all the topics that should be covered as it is a textile industry with a workforce of around 200-250 employees.

Hi!

The conduct of Safety Training in an organization, especially in factories and plants, is indispensable. Every organization must ensure that their employees are properly oriented and trained on safety and health matters. Otherwise, accidents (or even death) and other serious safety-related problems can arise at any time, exposing the company to potential legal claims and/or government sanctions.

A good training on safety must cover both theory and practice on safety and health. The theoretical inputs should focus on the following subject matters:

1. The Safety Policy of the Company
2. Safe Work guidelines and procedures
3. The Safety Management System
4. Guidelines on Emergency Situations
5. Proper use of PPEs
6. Sanctions and Disciplinary Measures (for Safety Violators)

As always, a trainer must have good reference material to conduct or run a training seminar. Hence, you need a comprehensive Safety Manual that will guide you in the conduct of the seminar.

If you don't have a comprehensive and good safety manual, my company can sell you our Safety Manual. Contact us if you are interested and have a budget.

Dear Parul,

Nice to see HR professionals like you taking the initiative for safety matters. Do you have a designated person to look after safety in your organization? Is there an internal trainer available to conduct training on safety topics? Have you ever conducted a thorough safety audit of your facility? What are the five major hazards prominent in your industry? Do you have procedures in place for training and capability building? Please provide these details so we can offer more ideas on how to improve safety systems in your plant.

Thanks & Regards,
DKV

Mr. Dkv,

No safety issues at the factory are solely dependent on HR. There is senior authority, but the expectations are from HR. Generally, we face hazardous issues related to electrical wiring and exit plans. Workers working in the boiler room also require safety measures, etc.

Hi,

You should check which occupational diseases can occur if safety protocols are not followed. For example, in a textile company, employees must wear masks. In the weaving department, wearing earplugs is necessary due to the loud noise produced by the machines. It is important to emphasize to employees how crucial these Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) are for their health.

Provide general safety instructions to your employees and ensure they understand the importance of adhering to safety guidelines. Identify the specific safety measures required for your workers in your company and provide appropriate training accordingly.

Thank you.
