Dear All,
I had read all the comment before me those have given. Many of them are saying that "the employees are selfish" ask them to work 2 month without pay; market is cursh and so many in favors of employer. But can any one realized about the family of that employees, about the loan taken by that employees to bulit his house, their family their career, can these employees get the job from tomorrow on wards etc. It is the tuff time for both employees as well as for the employers. From HRM point of view we have to look for balance between them.

Dear All,
Had this issue been handled by Jet Airways with a little PR exercise, it would not have backfired so badly. Jet Airwys should have simultaneouly given a Press advertisement explaining it's action of retrenchment and also the fact that in future the same employees would be taken back in employment on seniority basis, which would have stopped people making guesses. It would have stopped all the wild allegations and political interference. What is beyond one's comprehension is the manner in which the employees returned in the compoany. One cannot accept that such a mass retrenchment was done by the management without the knowledge of the Chairman. And even if it was so, they should have taken the retrenched employees back after the "Management's" announcement in the press. What has happened now is that Mr. Naresh Goyal's action has clearly spelt out that the ownership is different from the management and that he is "Above All". This has created a bad precedent and in future the empoyees of JET are bound to misuse/exploit it for their grievances and make the "Managemnent" vulnerable by going to Mr. Naresh Goyal. He being a Patriarch of the Jet Family, cannot forget the simple home rule that when the mother is scolding a child the father cannot be by the child's side and display it so in action and words.

Dear All,
Please send your comments on the following as its very urgent:
1. During this retrenchment/lay off period in the company, if any employee during probation period whose notice period is 01 month, resigns from the post before he is trminated, can that Employee give/mention that he will be leaving the company after 15 days? If yes, please give some legal clause or company policies.
2. What is the maximum period one can give to the company which will include his notice period, to the company? What are the policies? Like one employee whose notice period is 01 week, gives his resignation on 01 october and writes that he want to stay in the company upto 27 October and his nitice period will start from 20 october. Is this valid? if yes then give the rule pls.
Thanks & Regards

Dear all,
It is very difficult to recruit an employee for an organization, and they are removing 1.9k means there should be some strong reason behind, Might be economic down fall, Skill less employees or some other reason.
HR dept is the bridge between the company and the workers ,, That personals should not do retrenchment without a cause.
The company might be thinking insted of sending all they send that 1900 persons,
There is a proverb "For the benefit of a country we can sacrifice a Family"
Why cant we think like that? for the benifit of our company we can take break for time being... If the removed workers are really skilled and confident on them they can easily get another good job better than the previous one.
The company is having all the rights to issue the pink notice to the employees at a valuable reason.
So we have to think about the pros and cons of the issuse and then we can discuss that weather it is right of wrong.

The new, innovative and painless ways of downsizing manpower is something which should be the agenda for the HR people for now as this economic slowdown has once again showed that how much under prepared we are to handle the HR related issues especially when it comes to manpower planning.

Both Understaffing and Overstaffing are the result of the HR and Business strategies (whether its about future expansion turned turmoil or economic slowdown) gone wrong and instead of playing the world cup of the blame game among each other, its time and again to act on an old adage of "Make hay while the sun shines."

When you are in to the process of showing doors to so many employees, it has to be a transitional phase.

The state-owned Air India got a good lesson from Jet incident when announced they will not retrench any workers but could come up with a Voluntary Leave Scheme, which will allow its employees to go on leave without pay for between three and five years.

Still, I feel that HR is kind of like the old story of about the cobbler's children who dont have shoes. We recruit and develop great people for other functions, but we don't pay much attention to doing it for ourself.

Actually they just dont want any further increment in Salaries for coming year. To justify this and avoid any workers resistence they created this drama. If they really want to fire 800-1000 workers to cut down the cost they can cut it in 100 phases in next 3-6 months. 10-15 each month from different sectors and no body would have question him for doing this because this would not create any headline.
Now they can simply say sorry for increment at least this year, they can cut down the salaries even, they can cut down the Eligibility entitlements also and all goes to the cost cutting and ultimately a new way to make profit.
Govt also may not think to raise the taxes even for minimum two years.
So, we can say this is a very successfull drama by Jet HR Team with the association of Mr. Goyal.
Great Business man.

See what I believe is that there are a few wings for cost cutting. One is retrenchment.
But this is not expected if you expand your business by phase. If you calculate
your BEP in worst case; you will hardly face this huge loss which will lead us
to retrench people.
So HR people has to bear the burnt of it till we are not getting a good analytical
team for expansion R & D.

i don't know if it is right to say that Jet was incorrect in firing 1900 staff which ofcourse they reversed later. employees (ex jetites) have different feeling towards what happened. was seeing Corporate Gossips , Company Experience , Salary , CTC , Rumors, Experiences, Romances, Pay Hikes, Insults, Scandals, Firing, Hiring and every company's firing has different views so similar events cannot be generalised!
