6 months ago, I resigned from my position in the organization. At that time, my manager increased my salary. As discussed and agreed, he was supposed to give me the salary increment on-call. He told me that he would give me a certain amount in hand, so I took back my resignation based on his agreement. I informed him that if he provided the amount I requested, I would stay with the organization for another 8 months. I stated that I was reverting my resignation per our discussion on the salary revision.

However, in the following month's salary, I received 700 RS less than the agreed amount. I tried calling my manager, but he did not answer, so I resumed working as usual according to my shift. Now, after 6 months, I resigned via email. On the second day, the manager accepted my resignation via email, and on the third day, he replied stating that I had agreed to stay for a year during our previous call, hence I needed to withdraw my resignation.

I had not signed any papers or a bond regarding this agreement, nor had I provided anything in writing related to staying for a year. I replied via email stating this and questioned the validity of my resignation. The manager referenced an email where I had agreed to withdraw my resignation based on the salary revision confirmation.

I am unsure of what steps to take next. Can anyone please suggest the appropriate course of action from my end?

Dear KMP,

Your earlier resignation and its withdrawal, consequent on the negotiation with your manager on the basis of some mutual verbal promises from either side, cannot be linked to your present resignation. The current resignation is a result of the failure of your manager to uphold his oral promise as agreed.

Therefore, first, you should bring the fact to his notice by replying via email that it was only a gentlemen's agreement, alive and operational subject to the fulfillment of the mutual promises on both sides.

Secondly, as the salary hike is less than what was assured and is only for the services you have rendered and will render after revision, your promise to stay for a certain period cannot be enforced by the management now, nor can it bar your right to submit a fresh resignation.

Thirdly and conclusively, you should mention that you are still willing to withdraw the present resignation submitted due to frustration, provided the manager restores the salary hike to the agreed quantum.

You should also consider how to make the separation formal and peaceful in case of persistent refusal by the manager.

As per your advice, I have informed him via email that I have resigned from my position. I am seeking personal growth and do not wish to continue with the current organization. Additionally, I have not made any written commitment or signed any bond to remain with the company.

I also spoke to him over the phone, but he insists that I verbally committed to him and must retract my resignation. He is not willing to accept my decision and is threatening consequences if I do not withdraw my resignation.

I am in a difficult situation and unsure of what steps to take next. I am determined to progress in my career, but he is obstructing my path forward. Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
