A friend of mine was notified of a layoff from Wipro during the current downsizing. She was given a last working day and later was forced to resign. Can such an employee choose not to resign and raise their voice on any platform?

She can refuse to resign and tell them to issue a termination order and also convey that she will challenge it in court. They will get cold feet and defer issuing the termination letter.
One of my friend's daughters working in Wipro was asked to resign about two weeks back. She told them point blank to terminate her and that she would challenge it in a court of law. They then intimidated her by stating they would put her name in the Nasscom database. She told them to go ahead, as she would be going to court regardless. They tried other intimidating tactics and finally gave up, telling her to continue with her work. Your friend has to be strong enough to counter any intimidation.
Meanwhile, tell her to take up the matter with various IT forums such as FITE, which have also taken up the issue with the government.

Hi all,
We are in India, with an ancient culture of respect and love. We believe that doing it yourself is the best, doing it with others is next, and getting it done by others is difficult. It is not good to put soil in the plate where we ate. An employer starts a business, and an employee joins, rather than there being a set of employees for whom the employer starts the business. This only happens in government settings. In the private sector, the employee is always in a secondary position. If an employee is not happy, he/she can leave. At that time, the employee does not consider how it will adversely affect the employer. The employee only thinks of themselves. Now, if the employer is facing difficult times, why insist that the employee should not be removed? Even in the case mentioned by Anonymous above, after so much bitterness, will the employee work happily there? Is the employee not spoiling his/her life? It would be wise to find another engagement. Sar Salaamat to Pagade Pachaas. If an employee has capabilities, they can find alternate work anywhere. Most employees try to find other employment; very few think of starting a new business. I firmly believe that to develop oneself, one must stay in a hostel during studentship and try a business in their working life. This way, one learns the true meaning of life and starts understanding others, rather than fighting for false rights.
