see many educational institution follow this kind of policy the reason after getting your salary you may leave without proper resignation. i know many lecturer doing this kind of unethical things thats why management follows this policy. In my college my lecturer faced this kind of problem they wont get appointment order unless until they submit original. If you relieve without knowledge of management it will directly affects the student education. some lecturer particularly relieve during exam time or project thats why they are following this policy. other industry no need to submit original documents but educational institution required originals for students safe. This is my personal opinion if you relieve you present company for better prospects then who the hell is responsible for students education i think its right but anyhow the policy is illegal.
