Dear Friend:
We being at one of the largest organzation at Pakistan get 45 minutes lunch break. with two times working tea break. i.e tea on our own table. I suggest you divide your break hours 45 minutes lunch break and 10 min. each for two tea breaks. This will add 5 minutes to break with the day ending fifteen minutes later than the current time.

Normally the Lunch Break is for half an hour and tea break for 2 times @ 15 mts.
Now the question is why you want to increase it.
1. What type of Industry ?
2. Do you have any Canteen Facility?
3. I think they need this 1 and 1/2 hour to go to their home for lunch.
4.Types of production if it is continuous process then increased hour will hamper the production also.

Dear Freda,
My suggestion is you reduce the lunch break from 1 hr. to 1/2hr. and leave your employees early in the evening at 5.30 p.m., (from 9 am to 12.30 p.m. 1.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m.). Half an hour is more than enough to take any kind of lunch. I hope your employees will also accept this, as they would prefer to go home early instead of taking rest in office.
Try it.

Dear All,
I would like to say that 1.5 hrs of lunch break may be is not common for IT industries, but for manufacturing setup, lunch break can range from 1.5 to 2 hrs. When i was working at a manufacturing location of my company, my working hours was 8 AM to 12 PM and 2 PM to 6 PM.
Hence, this sort of lunch break and working hour is not a surprise for manufacturing setup.
Its a misnormer that more the lunch break more the employee will be inactive. Pl dont assume that employees dont want to work.
Regards,
Nilendra

Dear Fredda,
We are one of the leading scaffolding orgn in Dubai. We have TWO Hours Lunch Break...Surprised .....Yes
We have valid reason for it:
All the office staffs are staying just 5 KM away from the factory
They have to COVER both: Two Shift Factory Staffs
Howevr we have only one hour break for workers ....We ahve to be in the office from morning 8 to evening 7 with the break of 2 hours at 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm
So every industry have their own reason.
And you have written that even the branch manager feels that 1:30 hrs lunch is required.
So after all he is incharge of the over all operation of the branch and its out come...First you may ask him to justify the case at the same time you may also ask your head of HR to throw some insight on this.....
Do not reduce the lunch break from 1 hour .....because they are used to it.
if they want extra lunch hour then let them commit themself toput some more ...........
What type of Industry ?
Do you have target for the staffs?
Do you have any Canteen Facility?
what type of accmodation?

Hi,
Gone thru your query.
Kindly note, one hour lunch time is sufficient enough for one to finish his/her lunch and relax for a while. On the contrary people are observing half hour lunch time.
Any way if employees want more lunch with out increasing the working hours, this can be done if the management is willing to agree to the staff's request. After all it is mutual arrangement.
But I personally feel one hour lunch time is sufficient.
Thanks

Agreed,
Factories Act says that min. 30 days interval of rest has to be given. But if the management has agreed for 1 and half hour rest, its ok. Politics is not played only in canteen....so that is not a major area of concern.
Rest decision is to be taken by the management.

Hello,
Would just like to know the reason behind increasing the lunch time.
According to me, one hour is more than sufficient.
and if you want that employees should be productive, let them have an hour of lunch time only-actually the whole point of changing lunch time is quite impractical and unfair.
