What is EDLI? Does it happen in a government job? My father was in a municipal job and received PF & gratuity after his death in an accident. He still had nine years of service left, but there was nothing like EDLI. Please comment.

Dear Sir,
The employer has to submit your father's name in Form-5 with the date of joining (16/4) and also submit Form-10 stating that he died on 26/4. He has to submit Form-2 along with Form-5. Then the nominee as per Form-2 (declaration form) has to submit EDLI claim Form (Form-5IF) along with EPF claim Form-20 to the PF office with the death certificate and relevant particulars. The nominee will then receive the minimum EDLI amount as per PF rules (may be Rs. 30,000). Please act accordingly.

Hi all,
We are planning to conduct performance evaluations for our company employees. There are different departments, namely Sales, Service, Admin, R&D, Marketing, and HR. Do I need to prepare separate PA forms for each department? If yes, please assist me with some sample appraisal forms.
Thanks & Regards,
Sasikala S.

Some government employees will save some amounts under GPF, either in the post office or some banks, to gain benefits against income tax saving plans. Hence, the EDLI Scheme is not applicable in your father's case.
In the case of the private sector, all employees working in factories or establishments are covered under the Employees Provident Fund and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, and the contributions from both the employer and employee are paid to the EPFO INDIA. Under this, the EDLI scheme is applicable to the members of EPF. It is paid to the dependents of the deceased member if the member dies while in service. This will be paid to the members (Legal Heir) of the deceased employee as a one-time payment.

Hello,
I have a small doubt. Let us suppose an employee works for 8 years. They will get 130,000 INR. In the second case, an employee who works for one day also gets 130,000 INR. What is the difference between an employee who renders their services for 8 years and one day? Kindly, please, could anybody rectify my doubt?
Thank you.

(Fact Checked)-The Employee Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme provides a lump sum amount in case of an employee's death. The amount is capped at ₹130,000 regardless of the duration of service. This is a standard benefit under the scheme and not based on the length of employment. (1 Acknowledge point)
Dear Madhavi,
Please note that this insurance doesn't matter at the time of claim for what period he served the organization or what the amount of contribution towards EDLI is. It will be the same.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply contains inaccuracies. The amount of compensation under the Employee's Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) scheme is calculated based on the average monthly basic wages drawn during the preceding 12 months preceding the month in which the employee dies. It is not a flat amount regardless of the period of service or contribution towards EDLI. Reference: Section 6C of the Employee's Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme, 1976
Working period: Dec '12 to Jul '13. Basic: 2593 per month.
When we applied for EDLI, the PF office rejected the claim, stating that the deceased person had worked for less than a year and therefore could not process it. However, your response seems to contradict the information provided by the PF office.
Please advise.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply contains incorrect information. The Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, states that the minimum service period required for EDLI benefits is one month. The PF office's rejection was likely incorrect. Please refer to the EPF Act for clarification.
Dear Friend,
First and foremost, my deepest sympathy for this sad moment in your life.
On a technical note, I believe that in just 6 days, the employer did not complete any statutory formalities for your father in relation to his employment obligations. Since your father is no longer alive, and you are inquiring on his behalf, I do not think you are eligible to receive any benefits under the EDLI scheme.
However, on a humane note, the employer may be able to provide some assistance.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply contains some inaccuracies. According to the Employees' Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) Scheme, in case an employee dies within the first month of employment, the nominee is eligible for the benefit. The lack of EPF contributions does not impact EDLI eligibility.Looking for something specific? - Join & Be Part Of Our Community and get connected with the right people who can help. (Fact Checked)-The Employee's Deposit Linked Insurance Scheme (EDLI) is applicable to both private and government jobs, not limited to government roles only. EDLI provides life insurance coverage to employees. Municipal jobs are also covered under this scheme. Thank you for sharing your experience. (1 Acknowledge point)
