Thats great arpan. There is no shortcut for success. You have to be persistently dedicated and apply your smartness to achieve results efficiently and effectively. What's happening in the world. When we see a person working very hardly and either achieving results or not, we take him as a fool and the person who does the work with some unethical shortcut as a smart one. World is going in this direction. And we are attaching smart worker tag to the second one and hard worker tag to the first one. Why don't we discourage those who take shortcuts. This is because this guy gets ahead with superiors and we feel that this is the way to go ahead. So when you go up the ladder please don't look for such tags and encourage shortcuts. Example quoted by arpan rightly fits here. And to accomplish you have to do. Without doing you can't accomplish. So when you - all you hr people - ask for hard worker or smart worker, test for both because both are needed. But look for ethically smart people not shortcuts.

Hi all,
There is a little story for difference between hard worker and smart worker:
In a forest there was wood cutting work was going on. Due to the emergency work several body builders were worked there. The owner fixed a target for every workmen of 8 trees to be cut down in 9 hours with 1 hour rest. But In 9 hours the body builders are able to cut 7 trees only. But there was a lean man he cutted 8 trees in 9 hours. All of the others are surprised and they all went to the lean man and asked him ''u r looking very lean and week in phyiscal strenght then how u are able to cut down 8 trees in 9 hours''. He simply smiled and asked them how much time will u take to cut down 1 tree, they replied it will take exactly one hour. The lean man said for me to cut down 1 tree it will take only 45 mins. All are surpised and asked to tell the secret. He said I WILL SHARP MY AXE EVERY TIME AFTER CUTTED DOWN 1 TREE this is my secret to finish the target.........
The body builders are hard workers but they are not able not finish the target because they only worked hard.
The lean man is an smart worker, eventhough he is very week in physic he was able to complete his target because he used his brain while working.
Hope this story will be useful........
