1. Be confident. Never look confused / talk in a confused manner.
2. Dressing should be perfect.... (it reflect you personality)
3. Be Bold...... while making the important decisions.
4. Maintain a smile when ever talk to an candidate/employee.
5. Should be updated about the latest updates/ General knowledge/News.
6. Always be professional and never maintain a personal relationship @ office matters/ never messup your personal works with office works.

hi all,
Really great of you all for the wonderful suggestions/opinions expressed...it would be very prudent if all the aforeaid qualities are possessed by the HR professional... but,,in practice, many HR personnel does not appear to have entered this field with passion though it is not the reality... as everyone said, the passion does not be within but it should be outbursting.. every empathitic,sympathetic feeling of a HR guy must reflect on his/her behaviour with people around only then they u/s dat u have a passion for the profession.. merely claiming dat you graduated from so & so university with gold medal, attended international seminars... bla.... bla.... does not appear to be practical when your orientation abt the profession itself does not take a proper shape... I observed many guys who occupy sr.positions try doing all kinds of non-sense for manupulating the things.. and when two HR guys discuss something,, if a stranges enters, they wd immediately stop taking to each other and do something to get rid of the third person to have their deliberations on.. Is it necessary? Can't you atleast say something soothing to the person entered not sure of knowing what the other two discussing and the kind of behaviour exhibited really matters in certain situations....Pl don't take me amiss... this is purely my personal opinion....

A good HR professional is present in all the successful leaders. Its important to make people believe in you. HR professionals must be optimist and motivational. Human is the most important asset for an organization and its the duty of the HR department to retain and motivate them.

Having participated in this discussion earlier, now it is time to hit "the nail on the head"
The term "qualities" is very seldom used today, the reason beeing if linked to "performance" and "results" there is no way you can quantify it. While quality is part of everything that we do in the business world today, any qualities so used must be able to be linked to "quantifiable" results.
The Profile of an HR Manager is the term I prefer to use. Then I find it easy to link this "Profile" to the "competencies" critical for performance at the level of this position. While a generic profile of the HR Manager may look the same, the specific competencies based on the "job content" will be different from position to position, industry to industry, country to country.
Hence my suggestion to use "Core competencies" that all HR Managers must posses + Specific Competencies relating to the specific role.
Why use Competency Profiles?
Knowlege+Skills+Attributes (qualities + traits + values + beliefs etc) = Competencies
KSA approach is process related... and is related to running the day to day affairs.
Competencies are "outcome-driven" and "results-oriented"
If anyone is interested in stepping up the HR function to the next level from Human Resources Management to People Capability Management - including talent management, knowledgement and all related pieces together, I would love to help.
