I would talk of a different aspect affecting your future. If you now work in call centre and want to make future, it is very good and you will do well.However if you want to get back to finance, you may find it difficult after the BPO. if you want to come back to Finance, try a lower level job but in finance, so that tomorrow this gap in profession (not job) may not widen.
The man who interviewed you would have presumed you are lying cause you did not get a job or there was something adverse.
The age does not matter. I at 45 would still prefer to work with youngsters, cause they have such out of the world ideas, I can never think of.

Hi Niati

2 different points that you have put up have different responses. One of them (being disqualified for a gap in job) is only of academic importance. What people told you during interviews no longer matters as you are giving interviews now. In truth, I would probably think the same through I would not be stupid to say it. More than anything else, we believe it is difficult for someone to get back to discipline of work after a 4 year period at home. Further, in case work no longer suites you, you may chose to leave quickly resulting in me working again at refilling the post, apart from disruption of work.

Some companies, on the other hand have developed a strategy to use people like you as they realise that they can get skilled resources at a lower cost and also make up for the competition for skilled / trained resources. Check out Tata group's second job advts and you will realise what I am saying.

You have chosen the smart way by working for a bpo. 2 things helped : they are used to high attrition, so one more who may leave bothers them little. They are dying to get good trained resources, specially matured ones. So you were a good choice for them and it was a win-win scenario.

One added advantage for you is when you look for your next job, you are not applying after a gap, but after working for 1 or 2 years. The gap will matter less.

As to the other question on age, why are you worried ? So what if the others are younger ? Your recruiting manager and the reporting manager had any problem with your age ? If not, why are you havening a problem ? Yes, you do not tell well with the rest who are younger. You wont join them at parties, disc, movies and pubs. But then, do you need personal bonding with them ? Professional bonding does not depend on off-site bonding. It will come from your work, quality and involvement.

Further, you being older and more mature, you are likely to go quickly up the ladder if your work is equally good. Leverage on that. I think you like the work culture and environment. So there is nothing wrong in planning a long term carrier here. Don't be in a hurry to leave or even change. I think the salary you will get here will be similar to a traditional job.
