As a part of the HR intervention, we had adopted a case by case approach on absenteeism and Labour Welfare Supervisors were to call on the families also. The results were revealing as many of them used to get their tiffins packed but were not reporting for duty, mainly due to indebtedness as the usurers used to wait at the factory gates to get hold of them. With difficulty and liberal help from employees thrift society many families could be saved.
In addition to the discussion in Works Committee, it is suggested to apprise union of absenteeism problem in the industry in detail in which house visit could also be discussed and to clear union's misgivings on the subject.
Involving the family and bringing them on par is part of the treatment process and has to be tried.
