As you said that you would be joining a manufacturing firm, I suggest you do your project focusing on the manufacturing sector.
You can do a comparitive study by doing a gap analysis on any area of HR function by selecting few companies in the manufacturing sector.
I suggest you to do a study on Training need analysis in the same sector. It is very challenging to do this in any manufacturing firms as the training need would directly focus on the skill used by the employee in production.
