Dear All,
See there are some guys who behave ,un professional in life and in career....SO never ever feel bad.....bcos...U have done a right thing....in simple words...U have extended ur hand to SHAKE with others....but he rejected....thats it...I think U have shown right and New gesture in introducing ur self to that BIG CORPORATE.....but they are unable to mix up the other hand for HAND SHAKE.

One more point to be observed is....See how the HR head had tried to convince for his helplessness...and I think that HR should also resign his job...BCOZ...if he is unable to make their own people Secured..what will he do ,if the same situation comes to him....I THINK HE ROLLS OUT THE RESIGNATION AND GOES AWAY.
Sorry, if the same HR head is watching the same....I have experienced same kind of situation earlier in my job.

The boss should call this MD and tell him that he has been terminated for his rude behavior with an inspiring young officer. I feel sorry for the gentleman and am sure he will not find it hard to get a job. I pray that he will get one soon. He should not be disappointed because of the behavior of the MD.

What I feel from the entire incident is that termination was not the solution to it. This is a sheer case of 'power' & nothing else.

But again this incident has two sides to it. The first mistake that this guy made was that he marked the MD in the introductory mail for which he had to pay a price.

The second thing is that the Md's attitude was absolutely wrong.

Well every person is different & so would his nature be.

The victim here could have drafted a different email, which could have been a little more professional if he had to only mark it to the MD. Often we tend to forget that it is not essential that all people would think similar to what we think. It was a really nice gesture on the part of that guy, but he failed to differentiate the mindset of the people around him & just thought that the others around him too were just like him 'happy go lucky'

In my view the mail could have been a little more professional if had to be marked to the MD. (which was actually not required to be marked) After all we are professionals & ought to behave like professionals at the work place. And being HR Professionals we ought to imply this. He could have just marked it to the HR guys & the relevent people with whom he would be closely working with.

But, TERMINATION certainly wasn't the solution. Infact the words uttered for thim & the attutide itself of the MD itself was wrong. He shouldn't have humilated that guy infront of all. This just the matter of 'Power & Authority' which the MD wanted to prove.

Hope this was a learning lesson for the guy & Im sure he has a lot of potential & will fly his way in the sky overcoming this situation.

Agenda was to expose the things happeing in big corporates and to spread the awareness to all young ; aspiring , enthusistic young talents that things may go worsen & one should be extra careful when ever dealing with the Sr mgmt.

I purely agree with Ravi.
We HR are trying to creat a work environment, culture and an attitude in the organization, don't you think, it is our responsibility and duty to keep a watch on our own actions and words as well?
Also, may be this guy was to be given much higher responsibility, may that's the reason, for which MD would have got irritated and must have decided that this guy is not capable of being what he is hired for.
Though introductory mail was definitely childish, but there was no reason for him to be terminated.
According to my experience, I have always seen that, people/employees have lots of expectations from HR professionals.
Being an HR is no child's play and it is definitely a serious affair, untill you are inside or within your organization's premises.

As I commented earlier, the new appointee has been very immature in his actions More so as an HR person, he should have been extra careful and got himself familiar with the company's policies and practices, and strictly adhered to them. May be the termination was too harsh an action, but in the eyes of the MD,perhaps a person doing this on the first day of the job, was not the right person for the organisation. Unfortunately, he has learned the lesson the hard way. He should be careful at least in future. We hope he will be back on the saddle soon.

The whole episode reflects the unfair role played by HR Head,it is further focus on the HR status in such a big organisation.That is why, it is my sincere advice before joining any company/orgn. plz know the ETHICS of the company also.

The mail sent by the youngster reeks of sheer innocence and a very high enthu level. Honestly if I were the MD I would have given him a pat on the back and actually use some of the terms mentioned in his mail as part of the overall HR Strategy for the Co. Calling himself the "New Flavour Of Tata Coffee" is an innovative manner of introducing himself.
If this is the state of affairs in the Co. then I dare say the Corporate Culture in the Co. is really monstrous and most unbecoming of a Tata family. It is not the Co. which is to blame, it is the round pegs in square holes who creat such stiffling work culture.
He just has to be an intelligent and creative person to be able to write such an impressive mail.
The punishment meted out to him is extremely harsh and ugly.
Yes. the kid surely has a rich potential within him and we should all try and help him find a suitable opening.

Both parties have shown lack of maturity.
Firstly, the new entrant has no business to send a self introductory mail that to full of personal preferences and achievements rather than a professional rundown. These should have been shared with him in private with those whom he socially associated with in time. A formal introductory mail normally is sent from the HR dept. This is also a food for thought for the HR dept to relook at their induction schedule/program and probably go into some of these minute details.
Secondly, The way this was handled by the senior(MD), was also incorrect. The company policy should have been followed for termination of his contract. There was no need for the MD himself to have got involved. There are senior people(HOD's) who should have appropriately dealt with the case after discussion with the MD.
