Hi,
I joined a software company as a fresher 8 months back .I resigned due to certain reasons and didnt go to work from the next day. After a week, I received a mail from HR about my absence from work post resignation .I told HR I cannot serve the notice period and HR asked me to contact my manager.I sent a mail to my manager asking if the notice period can be waived. He replied notice period can be waived only if theres a valid reason and even if it is waived ,I need to be there atleast for parting formalities.I again sent him a mail stating my inability to come to work and kindly requesting him to waive my notice period. There was no response from him ,but after 5 or 6 days I received a letter from HR asking me to report to work as soon as possible, but I could not login to my company account.Looks like they deactivated it .What should I do now?should I respond to this mail again?
And by the way I was not in a project if that matters and I have the company ID card with me.

You will be in deep trouble if you are not completing the exit formalities. Is it ethical on your part to abscond after serving there for 8 months? Introspect yourself on your ommissions and commissions.

Hello,
I find your action very unethical and very unprofessional. You are definitely an absconding employee and we in HR departments face lots of harassment for employees like you. Paying notice period is not the only formality. You definitely need to complete all exit formalities. If you had taken the pain to complete joining formalities at the time of joining the company then you should have this much of professionalism to complete all formalities if you are leaving the company. And moreover you are also carrying company ID card which is another wrong action as no employee should carry any official document or belongings when he is not working in the company.

Ill not comment more on your act, as the other seniors have shared their views and mine are no different. However, you can do the following:
1. Send an email to your manager taking some time out to discuss this. Also mention that if required, you can come down personally to meet him and explain the circumstances under which you did this. Be very apologetic and remorseful all the time.
2. Post this discussion, send a letter to HR stating your details, emp number, date of joining, last date, manager's name etc. State that you were unable to complete your exit formalities due to circumstances and you now request them to share the process and checklist for completing the same.
3. Followup with the respective parties who need to provide clearance(Admin, IT, HR, transport etc), if necessary, visit on one day, and request their support to give you the all-clear.
4. After collecting the clearances and handing over the documents (ID, Laptop, corporate cards ) to your manager/ HR, request them to make your full and final settlement and issue the relieving letter.
5. If the company asks you to pay up notice period, decide what you want to do. As per your post, you are willing to pay it, so pay it off and get an acknowledgement.
6. Collect the relieving letter from HR when they have it ready.
7. Don't forget to send a small thank you note to your manager and HR for supporting you in this time and helping you finish your formalities.
8. Learn from this lesson, and don't ever commit this again. You need to understand that it is people like you who make an HR manager's life tough. Give the function a break!!!
All the best!!

HI,
It was very simple dude.
You would have contacted your Manager or HR to know the process & formalities. Its very simple- You need to fill the exit/ separation form & complete the formalities. Make sure you visit your office & do it.
Thanks, Hope you will follow the procedure set by your company & never repeat such mistakes in future.
wish you a good & motivated career ahead.

I could have not commented but this statement infuriated me "You are definitely an absconding employee and we in HR departments face lots of harassment for employees like you. Paying notice period is not the only formality."
To All Hr Managers,
Let me first apologize as I will be very blunt from now on in whatever I have to say and at the same time will request you guys to think about what I mentioned before bringinging in your emmotions and reacting to this comment.
Do you think you guys have the guts to argue or reason with a project manager or the delivery head with respect to a resource. Even if some of you have will you think of overstepping their decision? Think yourself !
Majority of employees resign due to internal factors, boss doesn't treat them well, they are not respected as individuals etc. Why don't you jump in then and prevent the employee from resigning. Now comes the real thing, no matter how long you have serve the company with whatever loyalty, you will definitely be treated as an outsider once you resign and serving notice period is a pain. Then at times an individual faces a situation where he is unable to serve the entire notice period, due to whatever reasons, he is not allowed to pay in lieu of that and is told you cannot go early. Thisk guy risks loosing both jobs now and is left with no other option but not to come to office.
Just think who is responsible for this kind of end result, except few, it's not the employee.
Over the years I have realized, the HR department rarely works for the employee. Most of the time they just manipulate employees as per the requirement of influential people in the organization irrespective of whether it is beneficial for the organization or not.
So don't say HR people are harrassed by acts of employees, after all it's your job.

Hi Saytogaurav,
I think you are not in HR Profession. You will know the impact of employee leaving without formalities or before date decided. And one more thing please dont teach us what is our job responsibility n all. Its employee's responsibility to complete the formality why you are not focusing on that...??? We know very wel what we have to do... Sorry coz m behaving rude but m helpless...
Coming back to the point, i agree with Balaji... VKTS has to meet his manager & HR & has to close this matter... And in future please be cool & think about the impact as what will happen by this kind of rash decision.
Al d very best...!!! Tc...
