Based on the information that you have posted I would like to suggest something out of the box, like say: Lecture on Star gazing and astronomy, one day workshop on pottery or clay modelling or organising a night trek on a full moon night. This may be fun and encourage participation. Gradually you can start adding knowledge based activities or talks.
