Become PROFESSIONAL what ever may be the subject choosen ( Hard Work, continous reading, Gathering tonns of information )
Correct English language.
Go through literature for interviewing skills.
To interview a high profile candidate, increase your own profile you need not be a specialist while interviewing a technical candidte in his domain, but as an interviewer be through on your own subject.

I remember when I did my first ever interview, it was for just a CRM executive. But I messed it up very badly because I was very nervous and it showed on my face. Sadly enough, I messed up with the job description. I was very upset after the interview. I remember one of my senior collegues coming up to me and giving me some tips which helps me till now. I would like to discuss them with u and all.
1. Do your homework very well. Read the job description and the role information for which u r going to interview the candidate. U have to show that u know everything about the job. Try searching net or any other relevant material for the role details.
2. Try to know more about the candidate, if you can. This helps as u can ask him more question and can research on his skills and abilities. But, now a days, there is hardly any time for that. But a quick reading of his/her profile before hand helps.
3. Try to do the interview with urself. i.e before the precise interview date, an hour ago or a day ago (whatever suits), do a quick interview asking sorts of question.
4. One of the very useful thing which I learnt was practicing in front of mirror. In my theatre days, I used to practice my dialogues in front of mirror and could identify where I was lacking the expression. In this case, you can analyse on which question u would look a little nervous.
5. The last one would be to develop and build more of self-confidence. You are there to give job and not to give interview. So u need not worry.
If however, u find urself at loss of words at a crucial time, try to act a bit casual and u can use hindi or any other language which both u and the candidate understands.

What ever Anu has mentioned absolutely briliant. Try implementng those and always remember one thing when you are interviwing some body let the candidate be a low profile or high profile you are there to assess the employbility of the candidate.
Think in that perspective and build up your confidence you know one magic in interview if you are interviewing some body let the candidate be a high profile/Low profile they feel much tensed than you. You always have an advantage while interviwing.
Dont loose your confidence and try to know more about how to assess the candidates behaviour and attitude beside other criterias.

5. As an administrative officer in an organisation, i have interviewed very senior persons without any hitch. You just need to be polite with them. After all you are doing your job.
6. You may not know how to play cricket, but still i am sure you can pick the first 11 for the Indian Team.

While interviewing candidates no matter whether it is high profile candidates or junior profile, but all it depends on your way of interaction.
Interviewing junior profile is easier as they were less experience so they were interviewed about their qualifications, knowledge about the subject, understanding of profile or job.
While Senior or Higher profile is backed with heavy experience, sound knowledge, qualification, maturity, good personality etc. Therefore a care should be taken while interviewing these profile. If possible please include a Senior Person also in the interview board, so that u can make it interesting and observe the discussion.
