Some of our mill workers are contesting in local body elections at their villages without informing us. I request the respected seniors give your valuable advices on this issue, what steps to be taken up.

Dear mr. Ramu,
i personally feel that such matters decides through certified standing orders.
Further to participate in local body elections one should not resign from the existing position
moreover, an intimation to the unit is head will suffice who will assent it to it with some conditions

Any Private Employee may be participate in elections, but, he has to give an undertaking to the management that that if he if he / she elects in the electoral, he can resign his present job and can join in elected electoral posts. He cannot continue as employee in a firm.

The concern of the managment is - Will participation or winning a election will hamper the work an employee is supposed to do. Hence it require means and method that the organisations interests are not compromised with person taking a local body role. Often these roles do not require full time participation. However you need to check whether your appointment letter very clearly stated of not involved into these activities. You also need to check what is the role and what will happen if he wins and elected as sarpanch etc
