Dear Sir,
As such the law is same for workers and officers. But as far as officer/staff is concerned and that too in Pvt.sector for staff or officers there are nothing like 8 hrs duty. One has to generally put up 10 to 12 hrs. That is why pvt. employers are generally paying good salaries. If your friend is not made for pvt sector, he can go for the other option. But more or less the scenerio will be same everywhere.

Hello Munna,
Sunil Sadar is right.
Ask your friend to first decide his priorities.
These days even the government sector jobs do not have specific timings--it all depends on whether there's work to do or not. If there's critical work to complete, then the person has to stay till it's completed.
You didn't mention your friend's age/exp-level. If he has less than 5 yrs, suggest he better focus on learning & gaining experience rather than thinking of working hours.

99 % of Pvt Sector employees facing the same problem. As per my knowledge its a regular practice. Even Ltd company also follow the same for officer not for worker because they have trade union behind them.

Hellow munna,
before compalining of work hazards and extra time working. Please think of some people, inspite of possining all qualification they are yet to land on any job.
Earning through sweating is the manthra for happier and healthier life. But wait for the right oppertunity to jump over to other company, where there is strict hr practice.
In coimbatore, some companies push you out if you are sitting 10 minitues extra in your seat after the office timming.
Dicipline should start from management.

Dear Munna bhai,
Do not focus on the working hours 8 hours or 10 hours, better learn the things, if you work hard you will definitely get the recognition and reward that is why pvt sectors are paying more than the govt sector.
If you focus on the working hours, better join the government job where you may work only for 6 hours only. Now choice is yours.
Thank you

Dear friends,
all of yours perception regarding government job is pretty good!!!!!
Just ask any of the 'sailor' of Indian Navy about their nature of duties & the time they spent with their families....
Right now we r working 11-12 hrs a day + 24 hrs duty in 3-4 days...... and yes No OTs...
