Hi,
We terminated an employee before some months because of his low performance and poor organizational skills. Now he is asking for a relieving letter from the company.
Can we give the letter saying that he is being relieved from the service of the company ? Should I mention that he was terminated ? Anyway, his character and performance can't be mentioned as good..
Please advice..
Thanks,
Betsy

Hi betsy,
In his relieving /experience letter, you can mention his Conduct/Character as "Average" or "Satisfactory". You need not categorically mention that he was terminated. In case you get a call for reference check from his future employers, you can reveal whatever details using your judgement.

hi
i agree with your point but there are usually two things mentioned which either shows the employee is being relieved or was teminated, how can we make a third type and what will that mean in the letter.

You can just mention as "Relieved". anyway, you wud not have continued with this employee coz of his bad conduct,so you have decided to relieve him. Just refrain from giving any glowing recommendations, mention only his desig, start and end date and mention conduct as "average".
Hope this helps! :D
