In addition to what Tejaswini has mentioned , I would like to add that maintaining of leave records is mandatory as per respective act applicable to industry, such as factory Act etc. Also it is necessary to calculate the PL we need to know the no of days present in the previous financial year and for that leave record has to be maintained.

During the period the excess/less payments ot the employee, the Auditor has every right to see that the funds are not mis-used. This helps the auditor to prepare the PL and Balance sheet for the Financial Year (FY). Yes agree excess, short fall, generate pay, leave encashment etc are other advantages.

1. It is statutory requirement as the same is to be produced before the authorities, as and when they ask.
2. for pay roll.
3. You know the leave status / position of an employee.
4. Helpful for calcualting earned leave and payment
5. You can track the employee and counsel him on his habitual going on leave.
6. You know where to give extra hand or to permit OT of another employee of the cadre to avoid work hamper.
7. will be helpufl in appraising his performance for annual increments/ promotion to next higher grade.
8. It is one of the jobs of the Personnel Department
