hi,
I am doing Phd on the topic "Performance Appraisal in selected indian enterprises". i need some guidance on literature review, research methodology, hypothesis for the topic.
I need to ask what kind of books, articles, journals, etc should i see and how should i write the review. Should it be paraphrased or in any other way.
I also need to know the research methodology.
and I am a little confused as to how should i frame the hypothesis for the research.
I honestly want to do a good research and i hope there would be some one who would help me in the above respects.
please please some one help me!!!

Is there no PhD guidelines in the university you are considering to enrol?
You should always, preferably, paraphrase other's work giving due recognition by citing the source. You should read most recent works on the topic, especially reviewed articles. By the time information is published in books it will be a few years old. You have to read a lot, digest the information, synthesise and evaluate the various approaches, decide on the aim and objectives of your study, develop a conceptual framework for the study, clearly state the hypotheses and prepare a cross-mapping matrix of the objectives, elements of the framework, and the methods you will employ to ensure that the results are valid, reliable, and triangualted.

Simhan Sir,
Thanks very much Sir, for your valuable guidance. Sir, actually i am suffering from two problems in the case of literature review.
firstly, the thesis available in our university library and also the books available on Performance Appraisal are old and not new. So could i take these old thesis and books for the literature review purpose.
Secondly, i have some recent articles in "HR Review" and "IIM Review" which have some articles on Performance Appraisal or Performance Management System as it is called now. So could i take them.
And for books, should i take the newer ones but thesis available are old and cannot be taken as new.
Please guide me.
Hoping for an earnest reply please.

The simple and plain answer is NO; it's not enough to rely on old thesis and new books. Search the web and find new abstracts at Emerald: Welcome to Emerald Then write to the authors of articles you are interested, after finding their email by searching their universities' websites. The authors usually oblige and send a copy.

You are doing a Ph.D so take your guide's help for framing the hypothesis. Also check your university research library if there is any database software which stores articles from journals. Parallely start researching teh companies you want to target so time is saved.

Mr Himcool,
It would be really a great help for us if you share your experience and learning that you have earned during your PhD as there are many people who are in need of this kind of help seriously.
Looking forward to your kind response.
