Dear Experts,
I would like to know whether doing lead auditor certification in OHSAS & EHS will help and add the weightage in HR profile and a professional who got more than 8 yrs of Plant HR and Admin can get any benefit out of it in terms of career growth.
i am expecting your input in this regard. Bcoz if this is really worth doing this course then i may think to doing .
Can a HR Professional do this course?

Doing a lead auditor course in OHSAS and EHS will specialize your profile.
Continuing in HR may not be of much avail.
Once you clear the Lead Auditor exam the best way forward would be to become a consultant
in the respective fields .You can do free lancing or join some certifying agency company.

I feel it may not add weightage to your profile.
Suppose you qualify for OSHAS18000 and get certified as an auditor and
continue to do HR work where you have been previously working.
Let us also assume that your Company is OSHAS certified and every year / couple of years
you go for renewal. Your role from Company side will be just coordinating. The renewal certification will be done by the visiting assessment agency. You may understand what is happening and at the most train your employees to perform better with your knowledge. Even without a OSHAS certification, after taking some training you can still do a good job as an internal auditor to help your employees.
Whereas if you get a break as OSHAS auditor then you can become a consultant with any assessment firm.
While HR is a bigger domain OHSAS is a restricted field with perhaps limited opportunities.
You have to do your home work and find out the prospects in each before taking any decision.

HR being larger and encompasses many such areas under Operations. You have to decide whether you want to ride top ladder in HR or you want to do consultancy. Nonetheless, doing any study or course is not a bad idea. You can taste without finishing dish to increase knowledge horizons one level up.
