Hey Arun,
Im also working with an EPC (Engineering Procurement Contract) company and can understand why you are raising this question or you have assigned some other accounts work including Admin & HR activities.
Dude you are at site office, not working in a HR department particularly and hope you can understand that. See Site offices are established to support their Head Office. Establishment of Account, HR & Admin department on Sites has the same motive. It works in a group of 10-15 or say 20 peoples at site to maintain a system for workers at site being a subdivision of HR & Admin and Accounts and if your superior wants you to work some accounting work, I dont think there is anything to worry about also guess you dont remember that Management accounting which is a essential part of Management comes under Human Resource Management.
I understand you are ambitious and you have to be which is really important for everyone and your present work, being an HR Executive or which you have assigned, is not according to your expectation and you are confused whether you are working with accounts or HR and this make you in this situation.
I can understand what you are into but it dosent mean that question can be raised on HR work style of an Engineering Industry/Company.
First if you wanna know about HR and their work in an Engineering firm, you must need to understand what is HRM first.
See, there is no much difference in role and work of HRM with an Engineering company then other. In a Manufacturing company where workers are working in a particular premises with their tools and other, in Engineering Company workers are working on SITE OFFICES(Other places) like you are working…
Human Resource Management : I have given a name of major HRM functions which is "7 STARS of HR" and all the functions of HR comes under these 7 STARS i.e. Staffing, Performance Appraisals, Compensation and Benefits, Training and Development, Employee and Labor Relations, Safety and Health, and Human Resource Research.
Do you think that HR establishment in a Manufacturing or other firm has different Responsibilities then an Engineering company?
Compensation, Policies & Procedure and their follow process of Garment Export where workers are working on Piece Rate System (Compensation Management) can’t be use in Manufacturing and other industry bcz HRM has made a policies & procedure for them according to their Organization/Industry objectives which is different than Manufacturing and Engineering Industry but it doesn’t mean that making policies and procedure on a Garment industry does not come under an Engineering company or other industry, they has the same rule for their employees/worker.
Im trying to give you an extract over HRM with the examples and difference between an Engineering Company and others…
Performance Appraisal: there can be different format but style and rules of PA cant be vary industry to industry for your information and like this i dont think that other industry HR peoples are doing much different on Attendance, Payroll & Salary Administration then Engineering firm.
See Arun it is acceptable that HR Policies, Procedures, & Processes of manufacturing or say garment industry cant effectively work in another but there is no much different believe me and its depend on work system, cultural and style of working of a Industry/Company.
To know more about HR and their work, please go to my old posts/thread and read it carefully..
With closing of this, I wanna say that if you really wanna make your career in HR, stand with it, increase your knowledge, learn as much as you can about HR and their work/functions but need to spend your time for practical with an industry. You need time to establish yourselves and I don’t want you to run too fast and distract yourself.
Btw whats your age and qualification if you don’t mind???
Best of Luck

Thanks Surya!! See actually there is not much difference in system and the procedure but according to the culture and objective and Industry.
HRM peoples from Engineering company are doing the same as other Industry peoples are doing but according to their culture and Organization Objective and as i mentioned in my earlier massage to Arun, HR has same work everywhere and with every industry and procedure to get the work done by his employees but according their industry, environment and in their own suitable style..
We are with an Engineering company and as we know that we have to operate our site workers/employee, the peoples who are not in our particular premises and working far away from us at another place so we make the procedure & policies according to this objective but with other industry it is not the same..and this is the only difference but it doesnt mean that HR has different procedure with other Industry.

Thanks Mr. Hussain, Actually last year in October i was talking to a friend over HR VALUES and then i decided to gave this title "7 STARS of HR" to the major function of HR and believe me before that i had to work lot over this..
Though there are numbers of activities are performing by the HR peoples and varies industry to industry but i tried to compiled all activities in these 7 functions...and today i feel great that peoples are agreeing with me on this...would like to offer my sincere thanks to all of you that you liked my work.
Every time when people ask me anything on HR, HR Values, importance of HR and anything, i just tried to describe these 7 functions "My 7 Stars of HR" to let them know about HR and their Function. We all are familiar with them but still need to recognize the major function and i found this is the best way in this regard bcz every activity of HR comes under these all 7 STARS of HR.
Thanks to all of you my friends, accociates, seniors and to all member of this place ...this place ..i cant express what it means to me....I love to be here, to give my time to the peoples here on this place or to this CiteHR..

Hi Arun,
Site offices feed into Head Office and as such, when running a project the overall objective is to complete the project on schedule and deliver quality at minimal cost (a controllable element). It is therefore the norm for a Project Manager to hire an HRM who will perform both Admin and Accounting functions in addition to the normal HR duties. At site, an HRM mainly uses SHE, Staffing, Labor Relations which will lead to underutilisation of a resource.
