Hi all,

As you all know, all offices have opened up with 33%-50% manpower restrictions. Can you help me out on how we could calculate salaries for everyone, especially since we opened up by the 20th? Many staff members are coming in on alternate days, some are working from home, and some are not coming to work at all. What is the best way to calculate salaries?

Thank you.

Dear friend,

Zone-wise gradual relaxation of lockdown restrictions regarding the functioning of industrial establishments does not ensure the total restoration of economic operations in the country. Therefore, involuntary loss of earnings to some sections of the working classes due to lockdown still continues. In this precarious situation engulfing both the employers and their employees, the moral responsibility of employers to continue payment of wages to all their employees and the justification behind the statutory instructions of the State, in my humble opinion, automatically gets diluted with the extension of the lockdown despite its statutory relaxations. The ongoing fight against the spread of the disease, which is unfortunately on the rise day after day, the shape of the overall economy getting worse from worse, and the volatile situation with our neighbors across the borders are reasonable factors not to blame or to fall back on the Government for any further relief. As such, everyone is placed in a situation to look after oneself on one's own.

Therefore, you have to make a decision based on your ability to pay only.
