Is there any provision in IT companies that they are expected to provide employment to a min percentage of staff who are physically handicapped/challenged people?
can you pls let me know if you know anything about this?

Hi.
There is an Act called "Persons with Disabilities and Equal Opportunities Act" 1995. As per the provisions under this Act 3% reservation is to be provided to Visually handicapped, Hearing impaired and Orthapedically handicapped persons, in posts which have been identified and earmarked for handicapped persons.
Please go through this Act, and examine its applicability to your industry.

Hello,
The act which is referred is THE PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES, PROTECTION OF RIGHTS AND FULL PARTICIPATION) ACT, 1995.
The said act applies to central government establishment and state government establishment and not to private employer's establishment.
If you are not a government establishment then you are not bound by it and free not to recruit persons with disabilities.

Hiring "Challenged" staff is good practise.(do not refer to them as disabled).
In HCL too we had several people who were deaf/dumb in HR itself..
do visit the website of Rehabilitation Council of India for details.
There is an NGO named SAMARTHYA which conducts audits for barrier free infrastructure.

OK Svarana says that HCL hires deaf and dumb people in HR - please change the language to hearing and speech impaired. Let me know how these differently abled folks are trained for the job

Surya , I myself am hearing challenged and am a post graduate too.
Its OK about the error, but i am curious to know how you train the Hearing and Speech Impaired guys in HR jobs. I am sson considering to shift to HR...........please help me out. Also I have posted one more topic related to HR could you please answer that too its related to education
