You need to be sure if you want to proceed towards the ISO Certification. There are certain requisits for being qualified to apply for the Certification like having a Quality Manual, etc. ISO Consultants or Registrars will be able to answer all your questions including quotation, duration, etc. For this you can send me a few details such as your company name, contact number, any questions. I will forward the same to my previous company which is a well known MNC registrar.

a) buy the ISO9001 standard from any Bureau of Indian Standard office, in delhi it is at Manak Bhavan, ITO. the cost should be 300/- approx
you can even take mebership of their library for a nominal fee, it will come in handy for thousands of product standards that you use in your line of business eg IS for sheet metal/ copper conductors etc
b) get at least one person from your company certified on ISO9001 as an internal auditor
c) contact BIS or Underwriters Laboratories if your company wants to get a genuine improvement done otherwise you can get ISO9001 certifctae from any fly by night operators at 35000/- only.
if you belong to small scale industry then you can avail of 75000/- subsidy too.
Finally am an Auditor myself, i can't teach you the standard as such but read the standard ten times and ask questions, i will help

i am a lead auditor. i have worked under a ISO consulltant for 3 yrs. No matter indusry this standard is applicale to all industry. i agree with my friend that u will have to read the standard 10 times. but only reading is not enough. it is not a novel. i would suggest u undergo a awareness training for it. Where r u located? i know few certifying bodies who will give competitive rates to u. u will get reimbursement only if ur coonsultant is registered and if u come under small scale (which i doubt). i am forwarding details of the consultant, he is also a panel auditor on various certifying bodies. he will guide you.
