Hello Friends,
i am an MBA FRESHER with specialization in HR AND MARKETING. I want to know that during this scenario of slow down in job market i found very few jobs in hr field and most of the companies are demanding experienced people or if there are any jobs for freshers the skills and qualifications required are equal to those of graduates especially in consultancies. It gives a feeling of frustation that if we are put in the same parameter as graduates than whats the use of doing MBA. Moreover, please tell me what the employers are expecting from the HR freshers, how can we assure the employers that if given a chance we can prove our mettle but the thing is no one is ready to look at freshers.

Hi Neha,
I am a MBA with HR & marketing specialisation. I have an experience of 2 years and 6 months in HR. But the scenario is as same as u r saying that no body is looking for the freshers. But lemme tell you one thing that the company are having vacancies and even they are hiring freshers but the biggest question is why are they not hiring you or any one else like even Venhadesh has even posted the same thing.
Being a professional belonging to a software company I can say you one thing that the employers they would hire you but you have to show them what potential do you carrry in you.
Even when i got my first job i had really faced a lot of challenge and even I am facing till date. When i took HR i thought that HR they really play a vital n the most powerfull role in the company and except the management no one has the power to FIRE a HR but the scenario is totally different.
If i start explaining you in this it would really take a lot of pages.
Do one thing have my Conatct ID mail me your full queries in that n I would get back to you on that queries.
You have a Question of working in a CONSULTANCY. R u presently working with any?
If yes again do make sure of one thing give me the total responsibility you are handling there. With your designation, Ur responsibility, Ur dealings and every thing then I would let you know what exactly the employers they look in a HR. cause its a very vital question which you have raised which even i was having but there was no one to guide me but Hats off to TECH. that now we can get to know by ol dese sites.
Chalo do send me ur queries to .
Just mention :
Do u know about GENERALISED PROFILE?
About Resume handling?
Playing with your words?
What is exactly recruitment, Selection, IR, LAWS, ACTS? I wont ask more about it but it is realy require for it. Chalo u send me then i would talk to you in mre detail what exactly the employer want from Freshers.
All the best

Hi Neha,
Sorry to hear about your experience.
Well, the slowdown has made hiring end to be productive, so the cost. Now what people like me will do is try to grab exp staff at a lower cost, so that new hires can be productive immediately, against a fresher.
However, never feel left out freshers are still sought but you need to be ensuring - right person at the right place and time!
For any clarification, am ready to be crucified!
Cheers

Hi Neha,
Employers always look for a person having innovative ideas and problem solving skills. Your resume should show that while doing projects for companies you have proved/acquired these skills.
With good wishes

Hi Neha,
Yes, I do understand your concern.
I have 2.6 yrs of exp in HR Industry and I have started my career in a "Consultancy". Like you, I was having an impression that I can easily get into corporates after completing MBA. But I never imagined that I will get into Consultancy for a Job because I didnt have a good impression on Consultancies. Ofcoures, I have opted a good consultancy with good package which was always motivating me to work with the kind of work atmosphere and quality of work.
There are:
1. Very Good Consultancies
2. Good Consultanices
3. Average Consultancies
Very good Consultancies provides all the facilities to the employees like corporates - Infranstructure might be the same as corporates but not with huge employee strengths For example: Manpower, ABC, Kelly and few more comes under this.
Good Consultancies are mid sized and with good work style. FOr example: Alp Consultants, CareerNet etc.
Average consultancies might not pay good salaries and will not reveal any details to the employees about the revenues that they are getting from the clients.
So, among these three you can get an idea and plan accordingly with the kind of consultancies which you are getting into.
If you are getting something from any consultancy, please go ahead based on the above categorization.
And coming to your skills: Yes, Freshers resume doesnt talk about any experience. It talks all about the Education and other personal stuff.
A Fresher resume should be formatted in a simple way and impressive way. It should contain all the information about your activities during your MBA. THIS helps any of the consultancies or companies to figure out that you are an Active Participant during your college days and easily learner. Mostly they look at your:
1. Positive Approach.
2. Open to Learn
3. Confidence
4. Communication
5. Attitude
Last three are very important attributes for a fresher. And Neha,I felt that your written communication skills are extraordinary and you can easily get into something. And let me know your Location so that I can suggest you some good consultancies in that locality.
I hope this helps you somehow.
Note: Mahanty - this is an open forum and so I request you not to ask forum members to send questions to your personal mail and then you respond to them. Let them post the questions openly so that everybody gets to know that and answer them. And if any fresher has similar question so that he can be answered immediately and he neednt post a separate discussion for that. I hope you understand this.
