Appreciating & motivating employee performance is a part of employee engagement. When we appreciate their performance, we satisfy their self-actualising need partially. Appreciation gives them sense of fulfilment. This helps them to engage with the organisation.
Employee development includes planning their career, instituting formal mentoring programme in the company, training them for their requirement of current and future competencies, giving them education allowance or giving them sabbatical leave so that they can pursue higher education, creating job rotation plan etc.
