A Hard worker may be the person who is spending long hours at the desk, actually working hard or hardly working? May be without any specific goal and is he/she actually getting more stuff done in those extra hours is also not clear? Or is he/she simply taking longer time to do something, which could be done in a much lesser time means no time limit sets etc.
A Smart worker is a person who works to accomplish SMART Goals-
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A- Attainable
R- Result Oriented
T- Time Bound
A Smart worker knows what to do, how to do, when to do and where to do efforts to accomplish the tasks.
My answer to the question would be-
I am a smart hard worker, because I work hard specifically, which can be easily measured and I can perceive whether the task is attainable. Finally, I want to get results within the deadline.

That is a potential "trick" question. The answer is not a smart "or" hard worker. It is smart "and" hard. Tell him/her you want to create value for the company. Both qualities are required to do so.
Good luck.

I think Smart worker is one who knows where he is going, sets goals and is working consistently towards achievement of his goals.
Hard worker on the other hand wants to be successful, just like smart worker but he lacks certain skills (critical thinking, decision making, problem solving). Because of lack of these skills, he is unable to get what he wants on time.
A smart worker writes down what he wants, imagines the end result of his goal in his mind's eye over and over again. He also divides his goal into small actionable steps and does one thing at a time.
Also, smart people are never afraid to ask for help when they need it.
Smart people are focused on results, while hard workers are focused on the process.

what i consider is that a hard worker is also needed for the firm but its the smart worker who brings efficiency. Hence, smartness is more required for results with a support of dedication towards work i.e. working hard. so the answer should that you are a hard worker with smartness in your belly.

Its results that matter Karthik not how you do. Thats the funda which I see mostly counted by superiors. And achieving results with less resources i.e. more efficiency is what I feel even managements look for irrespective of how you do. As long as you are achieving results you are there and even the management are not caring about how of the results. They are throwing ethics in bins.

Hi
Hard work: A person using same old skills and techniques for doing routine /regular work targeting to complete everyday in the same given 9 hours a day is a hard worker. A hard worker is someone who does not use his head much and just believes in doing whatever work assigned in the alotted time.
Smart work: Thinking how well the same routine or new work can be done with less resources/time and upgrading your skills/techniques also making yourself available for few other work as well.
It is always good to be a smart worker, because a smart worker is always assumed to be knowing how well a work can be done, any how goal must be achieved. It does not necessarily mean that a smart worker will not put in long hours if required. It is the dexterity with which the work is handled and done makes it so much desirable. But a smart worker need not mean someone trying to avoid responsibility or doing cheap work to finish it fast.
Thanks

Hitting the right thing at the right time is the smart work attitude!!!
no matter your skills are slight less from a hard worker but your confidence, teaming skills , presentation skills and interpretation skills are higher , then you are a smart worker if you can deliver the work efficiently. How quickly you adopt youself to the fast chaning business environment and keep your self updated.
In my view doing and accomplishment is the difference between a hard worker and smart worker:
• Hard worker: do
• Smart Worker: accomplish
There are many examples in every organization that many employees work dedicatedly at workplace leaving all personal matters.
But still not all of them eat the success cake.
At the end of the day, accomplishment is acknowledged!!!

Dear All,
As far as the question is the difference between Hard Worker/Smart Worker. I feel that in the present scenario especially in corporate world most people prefer to say they are smart worker and presently it has become a trend. As I feel I am a worker who put great efforts to achieve the goal comes under my hard working nature and a person who put his effors great in his working can't be said he is not a smart worker. In todays world everyone has understand himself very smart. Smart worker can be a part of hard work but can't be different with that because there is noway to get great success using shortcut method. You will have to put great efforts to achieve that one by using some tricks and techniques that makes your work easy and within a short span of time but really you will have to put great efforts you can't be a swindler. Edison had invent a bulb after 10000 experiments. Should we say he was a foolish person. he used to work day in and day out then he had given a great thing to all of us.
