Hi All,
I was on bench for around 5 months in one of the IT company since the day I joined that company. Now I got relieving letters from the company and I am in search of new job.
* Should I include name of this company in my resume, although I was on bench ?
*Or is it ok if I tell this to my future employer regarding my bench period on previous company, without mentioning the company name on resume?
In any case my future employer will definitely ask about this 5 month career gap, which is atleast not a smaller gap..
Pls Pls reply.. I really need your advice.
Regards,
Akshara.

Akshara - Yes, you should. Being on bench indicates the employer had no project suitable to your skill/s. If you lie, you risk your career - even 5 or 10 or 20 years later.

So is it not a bad impression about me, that I didnt get any project due to non suitable of my skills? Should I mention this bench period in resume or conveying this verbally would be enough?

Don’t have to mention 'Bench' in the resume or CV, but conveying it verbally is crucial - Don’t forget that.

Hi Akshara, In my career even i was on Bench for 8 months, The company never ask or qiestions that were you on bench or not, as far as you are in the compnay. It hardly matters, everyone knows that whene their are no projects employee be on bench untill they get any suitable project.
No one includes info about bench in resume... not required nor you have to speak unless ASKED.

You were selected by the company for certain skills and capabilities. and given a particular designation.
Only that needs to be mentioned in your resume.
At the most if asked by new company about what you achieved in previous company, tell them that the project for which you were hired did not take off and you were used in general work of the company.
Such benching takes place in case of many people, not to worry.
But you need to have logical answer ready when future employers ask you anything specific about that particular company employment.

A 'logical' answer is why we are diluting our talent pool - too many rehearsed scripts. Time to be upfront and state the truth.

No one broadcasts his weakness in an interview.
Here the employee was recruited for a particular job ,but was not used and "benched" for a period of time.
While I am not advocating hiding any fact, one needs to be discrete in answers.
The sheer fact of benching may give negative marks in minds of future employers who may not believe the reasons given by candidate.
There is no dilution of talent pool being ocassioned by not making a public disclosure of "benching"
Every company does its own tests, practical demos before selecting any candidate.
