I stepped into a Team leader role recently. My previous role was completely into the technical side where I was responsible to provide the solution to the critical issues in the projects. But my new role demands interacting with team members and plan a task , monitor them and control them if necessary. I see everyone is different from others and attitude towards work is different. I could not find the right phrases and words to express their behavior both good and bad. I hope someone could help me out here definitely to get familiarize with the common bad traits team members has and how to tackle them as a leader at the same time when things turned positive how to motivate them.
What are common work related conversations with some real time usecase examples would be helpful for me I feel. I am basically from engineering background. I have not studied about the peoples behavior :-( i understood it is an art. But I need some guidance here to excel at giving feedback on team members behavior to meet the goals of the projects.
Some questions pondering my mind ..
what are the different personalities one could possess ?
How to handle the people with the different skills and traits ?
I want to be prepared for any situation which occurs during the project execution . I do not want to fall short of words to express my thinking.
Any interesting blogs with the live examples in the project handling would help me a lot to refer
Please guide me here.
My second query is
How to instantly communicate in the group meeting where my peers and boss are there. I am good at writing but when it comes to talking instantly i fall short of words. How to overcome this problem ?
Please provide your valuable suggestion and tips which I could adapt in my work.

Dear friend,
Some time in our career we have to move from individual role to team leader's role. As you grow, you need to manage people. In fact you could have prepared yourself for the future role well in advance. Nevertheless, even now also you may read the books on the following subjects:
a) Communication skills
b) Listening skills
c) Questioning skills
d) Conflict handling skills
e) Interpersonal skills
f) Team building skills
After reading the books on the above subjects, you need to build these skills in you. Mere reading books and apprising with the subject cannot be your objective. Lastly, at this stage imitation is also important. Therefore, you may remember how your manager or some team leader handled people related issue. Write it down the instances. As you start reading the books, you may try to relate the instance with the theory mentioned in book. This will help you analysing and understanding whether the particular issue was handled professionally or not.
Last but not the least, command over language is also important. Therefore, you may master business writing skills. The way you have written your post shows that there is a great scope of improvement. You need to understand when to be formal and when to be informal. Those who demarcate between these two fail miserably at the managerial level.
Please be aware that you have to manage people who report to you and this cannot be done by just learning common phrases. You have to do lot more than that.
All the best!

Dear friend,
You are not alone like this, there are crores who could not speak or express or put across their mind subtly when interacting with people, especially with educated lot. There are ways to improve your interpersonal interactions. Few things among them I could suggest are-
1) Strengthen your vocabulary and memorise key words, phrases and idioms, which are useful many a time and had to be used frequently;
2) Listen to English news and closely observe the way and their style, body language the presenters/anchors are showing on the screen;
3) Spend some time before the full length mirror with your choice of news paper. Read aloud some of the news columns with accurate pronunciation and punctuation/pauses. And If I'm not mistaken, use this method before attending group discussion, presentations. Practice them using appropriate materials holding them in front.
4) Stick to English only in conversation with your colleagues and even at home.
5) Try to take tuition (free classes) to school and college students which not only help the students but also improve your free flow of English speaking.
Not that these are unknown to you but I meant prompting you.
I would be happy if my suggestions would be useful to you. All the best.
