HR policies are the practices followed within an organization in the form of rules and regulations, code of conduct, training policy, recruitment policy, etc. There could be a variety of policies depending upon the culture of the organization and the maturity of the company. They are usually framed for systematic working and to establish discipline and good behavior within the company.

I would like to know what the notice period an IT company should ask for from:
1) Management
2) Engineers
3) Marketing and HR people.

Hi Seema,

You are correct; the notice period differs with every position. Every position has different authority, lines of communication, and levels of responsibility. The higher you go on the above parameters, the more important your position is within the organization. There is no difference in functions, but the notice period varies with positions. In my organization, the notice period for VPs and above is 3 months, for middle-level management like managerial positions is 2 months, and for the rest, it is 1 month. This policy is in place because the departure of senior individuals directly or indirectly affects the organization's operations. Additionally, it is easier to replace personnel at the entry level and becomes increasingly challenging as you move up the hierarchy. Issues such as confidentiality, trust, and values need to be thoroughly assessed for individuals in top management positions, making it more challenging, though not impossible, to find the right candidate for those roles.

Hi Sridevi,

Payroll is all about salary administration. It includes complete salary details of each employee with their respective breakups along with PF, ESIC, GRATUITY, and other components included. It also calculates leaves and absenteeism records. Basically, it is all about maintaining salaries of employees.

Hi Sri,

It can be a little challenging for HR professionals to transition into a generalist role after spending a few years in a specialist role. However, don't worry, as it is not impossible. What you should do is focus on a specific subject like Performance Appraisal and gather as much information as you can. Continuously study various aspects of HR and when you feel you have acquired a good amount of knowledge and are capable of handling HR processes, you can start attending interviews. Another option could be to inquire within your organization about transferring to a different role. You can also participate in seminars that cover these short courses to stay updated on the latest HR trends.

Hi Sri,

I guess the answer to that question totally depends on what makes you apply for the job firstly and then appear for the job. The answers that we give during interviews should not be only to impress the interviewer but at times have to be genuine. Since we have to be 100% certain that once we join the company, we will be happy with the new profile.

Anyway, the answer that you could give is that you are keen on the profile that they have to offer to you since you see growth prospects and learning opportunities in that position. At the same time, your knowledge is apt to contribute to the company in turn. You are interested because you want to continuously upgrade yourself, which you see with the new company.

I guess we can frame our sentences according to the profile and situation. Keep yourself flexible and honest on this.

Nice to see your posts. Till recently, resources like finance, machines, etc. have been given priority. The administration was handling only the papers and files of the human being, and the major lacking was focus on the resources of the human being. Then slowly, the focus got initiated on 'human being', and it was felt and realized that 'human beings' are the major resources for any organization. Hence, we are here now.

The policies of HR are mostly common to any given situation. However, the implementation methodologies vary based on the culture, geographical condition, finance, etc. The ultimate aim of HR policies is to understand the human value and help individuals have upward mobility in their lives so that they play a vital role in the growth of the organization.
