Hi Kavitha,

Firstly, let me know your profile as you mentioned that you have 7 years of experience. If you are good at HR activities, especially in recruitment and other general HR activities, then consider AIMA. There, you will learn about International HRM and Managing Changes through Organisational Development. However, if you feel the need to expand your knowledge more on the generalist part, then you can opt for a Diploma. Just make sure to check where you are doing this course.

Hi guys,

I have been in recruitment for the past 3+ years. I started my career in US recruitment (i.e., US H1-B placement). Then, on January 08, I got a job for internal requirements, and I also processed H1-B visas. All this experience is in the IT domain.

Now, I am planning to shift my career to HR (domestic/internal). Please suggest some good universities to pursue an MBA and recommend the combination of MBA courses I should take.

I prefer to study through distance education, and I am settled in Chennai.

Hi Friends,

I am new to HR. Overall, I have 2 years of experience in BPO. I am currently pursuing an MBA in HR from Symbiosis (Distance Learning). I am interested in focusing on employee relations. Are there any other courses that I can take to enhance my knowledge of employee relations?

Hi Kavita,

I think the AIMA one sounds fine for your experience scale. After 7 years of experience, an overview is all you require as you would have practically dealt with most of the aspects in the Second program based on policies. Can you please let me know the details of AIMA certification?

Dear Ms. Kavitha,

It would be a great value add if you were to pursue a certification in PHR/SPHR. These internationally acclaimed courses not only provide insight into international practices but also make you a preferred choice for employers.

You would agree with me that HR is not receiving the recognition it deserves as a crucial function in business. You may visit the following URL to learn more about this course: [HRCI - PHR-SPHR-GPHR Certification](http://www.hrci.org)

If you are interested in a certification course that is not very expensive, you may also consider looking into executive MBA programs.

Hi Kavitha,

From your choice of courses, the AIMA courses seem to be more of a theoretical part with the requirements of a middle-level manager, and the courses of the HRD center seem to be a specialization in each of the given topics which will be required for the less than middle-level manager or a special requirement in that specific field as the case may be.

So, I would suggest you decide based on your requirement of being a part of middle-level management or requiring specialized training in the different listed topics to move up in your career. It should be your choice anyway.

Hi folks,

Though I've been working in HR for the past 8 years as an Asst. Manager, now I want to do a 6-month diploma in HR so that I don't get rejected due to not having a degree or diploma in HR. Even though I have the knowledge, a diploma is a formality in my case, just to show on my resume. Can someone help me with it? Which diploma from where would be useful for me and hold value? I am already above 35.

Thanks to those who respond to my query. Please email me if you want to contact me personally. My email ID is gaggan_sahni@hotmail.com. I can certainly guide people in case anyone has an HR-related problem.

Hi Kavitha,

I am not able to understand your need! Is the need for certification related to improving your resume in comparison to others, or is it related to your basic qualification itself?

Doing a diploma in correspondence or regular will provide only a theoretical base; the possibility of hands-on solution providing is less. However, certification will help in enriching your skills and your resume too. Online certification programs really test a person's skills and potential as well. If you would like to know more, consider taking certification programs on Psychometric tools. HR-related certifications available with Brainbench Corp are also good. They may cost you a bit, but they are worth the money.
