Hi,

This is Eknath Dhauskar from Mumbai. I have completed a BSc in Computer Science from Mumbai University. Currently, I am working at the IT firm Accenture as a software engineer with a total of 2 years of experience.

I am now considering furthering my studies through distance learning. My plan is to pursue a PGDBA from Welingkar Institute of Management Studies in Mumbai. I am curious if this choice will positively impact my career. Can you provide advice on this matter?

I have also come across information about Manipal University offering a distance learning MBA program. I am contemplating if this would be a better option. The main difference I noticed is that Welingkar offers a PGDBA, not an MBA like Manipal University. Which of these options do you suggest I choose, and could you offer some guidance or suggestions?

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Eknath,

In which specialization did you pursue your MBA? Since you are in Mumbai, may I ask why you are considering Manipal University? Welingkar has a very good reputation in Mumbai. You might want to consider that option, or alternatively, look into ICFAI as they also offer a Distance MBA. Another good choice could be IGNOU.

I have already completed DHRM from Welingkar and I am considering pursuing PGDHRM from Symbiosis or Welingkar. The decision is ultimately yours.

Goodbye. Keep in touch.

Archana

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. I am interested in pursuing an MBA in Information Technology. As mentioned earlier, the main point of consideration is the distinction between PGDBA and MBA. However, both institutes are reputable.

Please let me know if you need any further information or assistance.

Hi Archana,

If you have already completed DHRM, why are you considering PGDHRM from Symbiosis? I am also planning to pursue DHRM, so please let me know whether to opt for DHRM from Welingkar or PGDHRM from Symbiosis. If anyone has any insights, please suggest.

Hi Eknath,

This is Hardeep. If you've already made up your mind for an MBA, then go for it. But I just wanted to let you know that the PGDBA course is as good as an MBA because I'm a student of PGDBA in my 2nd year. I think MIT College, Pune, is the best for this course. The validity for this course is 4 years. You can choose your own time, place, and date for your exams. The best part is there are 2 assignments per subject, which include option-based questions, and you get 24/7 online support. Exams are online, 1 hour per exam, and if you're not satisfied with your exam result, you can reappear for the same. If there's anything else you're looking for, keep in touch. 😃

Well, Eknath,

If only certification is required, then check for the college/university brand that is well-known in the market. Since you are already working, this course is a value addition. Even IIM, Symbi, MIT provide PGDBA, not MBA, but the brands are very much saleable. For admission to these programs, you may call all these colleges and collect information.

All the best.

Hi Eknath,

Please don't ever think of going to ICFAI as the result of that institution is hardly 5%. It would be better to go for PGDBA from Welingkar. Since you have already completed your DHRM from Welingkar, you will receive a waiver for 6-8 subjects, and your PGDBA duration of 2 years will be completed in a span of 1.5 years.

Shriya

hi eknath and other friends,

let me first clear the difference between pgdba and mba, well pgdba and mba are one and the same... it goes like this whenever you do mba from any institute no matter you are doing full time course, part -time or distance learning you get pgdba certificate i.e whether welingkar, symbiosis, bajaj , IM(ahmdebad). and if u do mba from any university i.e icfai, pune uni, mum uni you will get mba certification . there is no difference in syllabus or curriculam neither the value in market.

rather than doing from any uni/coll which is originally from outside mum i suggest to do it from welingkar atleast you can visit coll if any prob.

please dont do from icfai read following.

HYDERABAD : The ICFAI rigmarole seems to be falling apart in Hyderabad and elsewhere as damaging court cases, adverse judgements and students' unrest have all started taking a heavy toll on the organisation called Institute of Chartered Financial Accountants of India.

According to a latest report the Andhra Pradesh State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (APSCDRC) has found fault with the ICFAI University,

Hyderabad for not providing full information to a student at the time of his admission and ordered refund of fee to the concerned student.

Upholding the verdict of Warangal District Consumer Forum, the State Commission ordered the university to refund Rs 22,300, the tuition fee paid by the student, in addition to Rs. 5,000 compensation and Rs. 2,000 court costs within a month. The case was filed by a student named Md. Anwaruddin.

Md. Anwaruddin joined MBA programme, in distance education mode at the university’s Warangal study centre in December, 2003. He paid Rs 15,000 out of Rs. 51,500 and gave 10 post-dated cheques of Rs 3,659 each for the remaining tuition fee. By then, he was under the impression that he could attend contact classes at Warangal study centre. As classes did not commence even after the beginning date, he enquired about the same with the headquarters in February, 2004.

The university informed him that classes could not be conducted at Warangal and suggested him to attend classes at Hyderabad or to continue the course in "self-study" mode. Then the complainant withdrew from the course and demanded repayment of the fee. As the university turned down his request, he filed a case with the District Forum demanding the paid amount of Rs.22,300 with 12 per cent annual interest and Rs.1 lakh towards damages and costs.

The university contested the case saying that classes were not held at Warangal as there were not enough students. It said his withdrawal was not accepted since the provisions concerned do not allow such exit before clearance of post-dated cheques. It further argued that there was no deficiency in service since the provisions were clearly indicated in its distance education regulations.

However, the District Forum pointed out that the ICFAI had not provided any such details in the application form, nor did it define what the "requisite number" could be. When the ICFAI challenged the verdict in APSCDRC, the appeal was dismissed.

if you want more information on mba then email me

Sikkim Manipal University's distance program is the best option for distance learning, as I was also a student of the Sikkim Manipal University distance program. It is accredited by the government. SMUDE uses the latest edunxt technology to create a virtual classroom where you can interact with the faculty and students, and thereby also network with other students. This is a unique and one-of-a-kind feature among other colleges offering distance education. Dear Eknath,

If you are willing to pursue a PGDBA or MBA, then I suggest going with Madurai University (Distance Education) as it has UGC recognition, and its certificate holds more value than others.

Some differences to consider are that IGNOU is an Open University, so its certificate may not hold as much value as a Distance Education certificate. Regarding Manipal, I believe they have only applied for UGC recognition and are still awaiting the grant.

All the best.

Thanks

Hi All,

I am confused between the Distance Learning PGDBA course and the part-time course. Which one is better? Is Welingkar good for the PGDBA course? Are there any benefits of doing PGDBA from Welingkar? Currently, I am in an IT firm. Will it give me more exposure to my career?
