I withdraw my resignation, and now they are asking me to sign a letter which says that I will not leave the company for 1.5 years. If I leave before that time, I will not be granted a release, and no experience letter will be provided. There is no policy written anywhere that mandates signing such a document if a resignation is rescinded. If I refuse to sign, they are insisting that I serve the notice period and leave. This situation raises questions about my credibility. Please help.

You have resigned. Then you decided to take it back. The company is at full liberty to decide whether they will allow you to continue working. If they are asking for specific terms, that too is their prerogative unless the demands are unfair. In this case, it is fair. They are giving you the option to serve the notice period and leave. When they are willing to let you go, I don't see any possibility of giving you a raise. Your statement of getting something in return for giving something holds true here in a different manner. They are asking for something in return for allowing you to continue.

Once you resign, you should not withdraw it unless some extraordinary circumstance comes up. The company is at full liberty to accept your resignation and not permit you to withdraw your resignation, but on their own terms. If the terms are not suitable, go ahead and quit. What you should understand is that the balance of power has shifted into the company's hands with your withdrawal of resignation. It is totally up to you to accept or reject. This is the price for having a wavering mind.

As you have tried both the options of resignation and withdrawal, it clearly indicates the level of confusion on your end. However, according to the rules, it is mandatory to collect the required documents for assurance.

I have faced a similar scenario before, but I did not sign any bond like this. Therefore, it is advisable to serve the notice period and then collect any pending items afterward.

Dear Rsh,

The company is asking you to sign the bond as they have lost trust in your commitments. You have changed minds, and the company is now thinking, what if you resign next month itself... They see this as a lack of commitment from your side, and hence they want you to sign the bond, or in other words, they don't want to accept your resignation withdrawal.
