You need not revise or calculate minimum wages. The State Government notifies minimum wages as per the category of the workmen like manual, skilled, or unskilled, etc., and also as per the establishment in which they are employed, namely the Engineering industry or shops and commercial establishments. You need to pay the appropriate minimum wages to the workmen falling under the relevant category. The State government revises the minimum wages every six months in accordance with the cost of living index. Similarly, the Central Government notifies minimum wages for establishments falling under its control. Hope this would clear the matter.

Dear Hima,
Every state in India has different minimum wages based on the category of employees. The calculation of minimum wages varies from state to state. For example, in some states like Chhattisgarh, the daily minimum wage rate is given, which we have to multiply by 26 days and consider the amount arrived at as the minimum wage. States like Andhra Pradesh give minimum wages based on zones and categories of employees. Zone I includes all metro cities and municipalities, Zone II comprises smaller towns and Zilla Parishads, and Zone III comprises Panchayats, Taluks, and villages. You need to remember this and calculate minimum wages accordingly.
For any further information, please contact me.

Sumeet

This is in addition to what Mr. Saikumar has posted. Some states, like Kerala, have notified Minimum Wage (MW) with Dearness Allowance (DA) which changes every month based on the Consumer Price Index. In such cases, one has to find out the monthly CPI either from the labor office or Gazette and calculate the MW. The MW includes a service weightage component that also needs to be calculated at the appropriate time.

Dear Mr. Sumeeth,
Could you please inform or attach the recent minimum wages hiked by the Labour Department of the Government of Andhra Pradesh? Our unit falls in Zone III (Guntur District), and I understand that the minimum wages would be revised every 6 months and is for April 2013.

Dear Friends,
I am unable to access the Minimum Wages Details of Shops & Establishments in Andhra Pradesh. Previously, the AP Government maintained a website where I could find this information. However, the site is currently not functioning, making it challenging for me to obtain the details.

What are the components/factors considered for calculating MW?
What do we mean by CPI, and how is it calculated or accumulated on a monthly basis?
How are points converted into money?
Please educate with an example.
