Hello,
Skill set for a Placement Officer of a Management Institute would include:
1. Fluent English communication - verbal and written.
2. Reasonable insights in Management & Economics.
3. Awareness of industrial clusters in terms of sectors and locations.
4. Ability to develop sound, credible reciprocal relations with the industry.
5. Effective paraphrasing of industry's needs for talents and institute syllabus execution.
6. Facilitator or promoter of industry/institute interface.
7. To help the institute reconfigure its efforts to provide requisite skills to the industry.
8. Good PR, liaison, and relationship building skills.
9. Sound and rich frame of reference, in terms of awareness of changing needs of the industry, government policies, and the national economy.
10. Finally, a positive attitude, proactive nature, and strong optimism.
These are a few essential qualities I believe a Placement Officer must possess. Additional factors may vary depending on the institute's culture, potential employers, and the location of the institute—whether rural, urban, or metro, as well as the quality of students and faculty.
Feel free to ask more questions or seek clarifications.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Samvedan

Hi Preeti,
Before dressing to Preethi, let me say thanks to Mr. Samavedan. Very good bit of knowledge you have shared. Preeti, I am also doing the same work. For 10 colleges, earlier I was tagged as an Industrial Liaison Officer, now HR Corporate Relations. I am doing it in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka. I have good contacts with HR people. I would suggest you to register on LinkedIn. This is the platform of HR, and other various networks such as SHRM, NHRM, etc. (there are plenty). Lastly, one simple suggestion: be in good touch with other placement officers of your location. I see very good career opportunities.

Dear All,
I recently joined an IT training corporation as a Training cum Placement Manager, with about four years of experience as a soft skills trainer. However, my experience in placing students in corporates is only one and a half years.
My humble query is, do I have to walk into each and every organization and do a presentation, or can I just call, send mailers, and CVs of fresher candidates to corporates? How do I segregate between which company will ask candidates to upload a CV or will agree to a campus drive, as most of these companies do not have a mail ID or a phone number to which we can reach out?
Appreciate an early reply.

Ss
