Hi,

On 12th March (as per 30 DAYS), I submitted my resignation because I received a new offer from another company. Due to the lockdown, I continued working from home in my current company. On May 7th, I received a call from the new company asking me to join on 20th May. However, the company is now refusing to provide a Relieving Letter online, even though they had already accepted my resignation and my work was completed. I have already informed my reporting boss about this issue. My current company has informed me that they will only provide the Relieving Letter after the lockdown ends.

Please advise on how to proceed. Thank you for your help.

First, you should discuss/mail with your new employer to inquire whether they are willing to offer you a job without requiring a relieving letter from your current employer. Request the new employer to provide written confirmation. Once you receive the confirmation from the new employer, proceed to send a letter to your current employer requesting a relieving letter as you have already resigned. It is advisable to always attempt to fulfill the notice period or negotiate a buyout to ensure a smooth transition.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, I believe you are in a safe zone regarding the cited issue. You can inform your prospective employer of the feedback given by your current employer. You can check with them whether you will be permitted to join by giving an undertaking/declaration that you will submit your relieving letter as soon as you receive it after the lockdown period is lifted. Alternatively, you can insist on a resignation acceptance letter from your current employer and submit it to your new employer.

How did your current employer communicate with you regarding the issuance of the relieving letter? If it was through written communication, submit a copy of such communication to your new employer.

Hope you have completed your notice period as mentioned in your appointment letter.

Apart from what seniors suggested, I would recommend getting an email confirmation from your current employer where they mention that the relieving letter will be given on a specific date.
