Please leave the gap as it is, and explain before the interviewer the actual reason for your long gap and do not forge any fake certificates for the reason of filling of this gap.

Hello Seniors,

I need your valuable advice in my case too. I have 9 years of HR experience and hold 5 HR-related certifications. I have a 2+ year gap due to maternity and child care needs. I am currently trying to secure full-time employment, but it seems that people only focus on the gap and are not considering my profile. They also cite reasons such as package issues.

I have attended almost 4-5 interviews, but it appears that my resume was not screened properly beforehand. Instead, they interview me and then mention reasons such as package, gap, or being overqualified. It is essential to screen applicants first before calling them for interviews. This process feels like a waste of time and money, especially considering travel expenses for out-of-town interviews.

1) My question is, even though I have HR experience and knowledge of interviewing, why do I still face issues like improper screening and concerns about budget constraints? Additionally, not receiving proper interview result notifications adds to the frustration of wasting time and money. One must consider the experience of regular candidates in such situations.

2) As HR professionals, we are aware that career breaks for women, such as marriage, maternity, or child care responsibilities, are common. Why are these reasons not taken into account when reemploying individuals like us?

I look forward to your valuable input for the next steps in my career. Excuse any typos or errors in my writing.

Give proper justification about a long gap when you are called for an interview and do not bargain too much for the salary or benefits. Your objective should be to secure a job, and after some time, you can change your job according to your preferences. Remember, when you are jobless, accept a job (no choice).

With best wishes

Good morning!

In my opinion, an employment gap is also good, as it is usually the time when an individual actually thinks about their career path more often than not. In some cases, it could be due to health reasons, including welcoming new members into the family.

Please note, as advised above:

1. It is always good to give the true reason for a gap.
2. Calculate your actual work experience based on the time engaged, not the number of years since first employment taken.
3. Try to apply for jobs only where you feel you will be best utilized for your skill sets, not out of desperateness.
4. Even if there comes a time when you have no choice but to take up a job, please note there is dignity in all jobs. Choose an assignment where you think you can deliver while continuing to search for your most desired job.
5. In my experience, most new parents, both women and men, face challenges adjusting to lifestyle changes due to kids. Therefore, committing yourself realistically to jobs you can deliver in is a more sensible approach than trying to return to your previous routine.
6. Look for jobs in companies that are now seeking women who have taken a brief hiatus from their careers. Explore to see if you can find your desired job. Check this link for example: https://sheroes.com/articles/25-retu...india/Njg0NQ==

Hope these thoughts help you. All the best!
